@Sunday Afternoon, yes!

The title of the debate is funny to me as it’s between atheism as such vs. a very specific religious commitment.
It’s mirror opposite would be the specific philosophy of, let’s say, Bertrand Russell vs. the general idea of the supernatural. The Christian is jumping the gun or planning to prove a lot of very precise claims in one debate.
For Christianity to be true, there must be a supernatural realm. It must include personal beings. One of these beings must be the god of Abrahamic monotheism and he must be all-powerful and the only being worthy of worship. And neither Judaism nor Islam may be true.
The atheist just has to show that there is no evidence for a supernatural realm to begin with.

Sorry. I said Atheism when the title was Naturalism. That’s actually .my preferred term if it hadn’t been turned into a synonym for biologist. Of course, there is a great deal of overlap between the two.

Gah! I live nearby and could have gone to see this, but I don’t pay attention to this page as much as I should. Curses!
Maybe next time Justin comes around southward, I can catch one of these oh-so-painful debates. Because I hate myself, maybe.

It went really well, and Justin was a pleasure to debate and hang out with afterwards. You can read my summary and thoughts here: http://treesearch.org/debate/summary-giunta-schieber-debate-2014

Can we have the debate as a RD podcast extra? Cheers Ed
