Here’s the only problem with comparing the Trump regime to Nazis: we have our own homegrown analogy, our heritage of slavery, and the enforcers of that oppression.
“Slave catchers” just isn’t as catchy as “Gestapo”, in addition to making white people uncomfortable. But it is more accurate. The Nazis were inspired by purely American racism, from the genocide against Native Americans and the reservation system to the use of concentration camps (tip o’ the hat to the British in the Boer War for that one, too). We have a lot of sins we should be more conscious of. It’s troubling how often we have targeted people on the basis of race: Native Americans, Black people, Japanese Americans…we’ve had special state-endorsed treatments for people of color throughout our history.

I think America and Sweden were ahead of Germany with forced sterilization, too.
Sweden was first with an instutute for racial hygiene, I am not familiar with the details of the American side of organizational pseudoscience
“Human traffickers” would also be accurate. I understand they get a bonus or bounty for every person they bring in.
Who is “we” here exactly?
Americans – United States of – always been very divided and contradictory and split. Always had so much good and also so much evil in their culture(s) / system(s) / actions.
People = always individuals (Oblig Monty Python ref – “I”m not!”)
Live up to the best and not the worst y’all can be. Please.
Pretty please with the future of our entire durn planet on top, pretty much.
You guys all far too powerful. That is the fact. Too influential. Too mighty. Rogue superpower.
Dunno how, got a few ideas that probly won’t work & are drastic – but Trump and his regime need to go ASAP.
PS. HG Wels War of tehWorlds 1898 novel? Was based on how the European – British – colonisers treated our Indigenous people specifically in Tasmania if memory serves.
Our Auissie frontier wars still buried in denial and willful ignorance FWIW. So .. Humanity I think? The worst aspects of our natures not just just in any one country or group at “play” (for want of better word) here..
There was a profit motive for slave patrols, and the people grabbed by ICE go to for-profit prisons. Some people are getting very rich off this.

JH Kellogg, of cornflakes fame, founded the Race Betterment Foundation in 1914 and the Eugenics Record Office was established in the state of New York in 1911. So, I believe the US beat Sweden to it.

I’ve always thought ICE are more comparable with the KKK, which kind of evolved from the previous era’s slave-catchers. (Also, Confederate soldiers served as slave-catchers, and many of them went on to become an illegitimate militia when legit forces didn’t let them do what they wanted.)
ICE can also validly be compared to two other groups: the Black Hundreds of late Tsarist Russia and the more recent Night Wolves. Although, to be honest, the Night Wolves come off as a friendlier and better-dressed bunch than ICE, and would probably be kind of insulted by the comparison.
I’m a white guy in a Minneapolis suburb. My fiance is not white.

I guess that makes the FBI equivalent to the Okhrana, which… under its current leader, sounds all too appropriate.

<sarcasm> It’s worth pointing out that the current government can’t even follow the law of the United States, as laid down by a veteran of the Civil War. Considering the sheer number of imbeciles in this Administration, they’re in violation of a very clear directive: “Three generations of imbeciles are enough.” Buck v. Bell, 274 US 200, 207 (1927) (Holmes, J.). I’ll leave teasing the racist background to that case as an exercise for the student — but it was written by a man who surely knew the original meaning of the words of the Reconstruction Amendments, so it’s obviously consistent with that; and… it was repeatedly cited by Nazis and ex-Nazis less than two decades later, both before and during the Nuremberg proceedings. Here’s your bed, Procrustes… </sarcasm>
Concentration camps in Cuba slightly predate our British efforts in the Boer War, FWIW. I think it’s a side effect of modern industrial warfare. I’d even make a partial case for Andersonville as the very first instance, although it isn’t quite the same.
