It’s supposed to be heading toward Chicago next. I planned ahead for a change and filled up the gas can for the snow blower. And my grandson is home from college this week so maybe I can toss him a few bucks to come over and shovel out the bits that I can’t do myself.

Over here on the east side of MN it’s raining, though it’s supposed to turn to snow tonight. The forecast is for anywhere between 1 and 6 inches of snow, but I doubt it will be more than 1. I’m thrilled to get a good rain before the ground freezes up. It’s been a fairly dry autumn which isn’t good for the flora.

We’re not expecting any substantial snowfall until Saturday. We made sure the snowblower was ready a couple of days ago, so we’re ready.

It’s pretty cold here in the UK too. BTW PZ haven’t commented for years, but I’ve been following Pharyngula all this time and I have a biology query that I would appreciate assistance with. If you’re happy to help, please contact me at [email protected]. I didn’t want to hassle you by assuming your email address so thought I try and get in touch this way.

It appears the first real cold of the season is on its way to the mid-Atlantic, too. This morning it was a lovely 62F; I opened the slider and heard birdsong. My cats are going to be bummed. They hate the cold, but love hanging out on our screened in back deck. The plants will have to be moved inside. Time to rustle up a sweater and heavy jacket.

As expected, most of the snow melted on contact so I’ve got a couple inches of very wet snow on ground surfaces. The sidewalk and driveway are still visible through the inch of slush that I need to remove.

I plan to wait awhile to see if the wind dies down before going out to run a shovel over the sidewalks before it freezes. 27F is pleasant enough, but the single digit windchill is shockingly brisk.
