My yard is full of these tiny baby orbweavers, and I struggled to get photos of them — here I’m using my Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens with a Raynox DCR-250, and I’m doing this handheld. I should break down and snatch them up into a petri dish and put them on the microscope in my lab, but I’m trying not to disturb them too much.
Four of them have moved into our blue recycling container, one to each corner, and others are building webs in various corners of our orange house, so at least I get different backgrounds.
Awww, little cuties. Though both photos do show the problem of the lack of depth of field with macro lenses.
I particularly like orb weavers, well web weavers in general as they can be depended on to stay on or near their webs. I still have problems with over reacting to spiders on the loose, especially if I encounter them unexpectedly, like when I discover them crawling on me.

Have you tried macro photography with one of the newer cell phones with two or more lenses? I’m amazed at the capabilities of my Pixel 8 and my wife’s iPhone 13. It might be better than what you’re getting with conventional equipment.
Yes, I have. They do a pretty good job. Unfortunately, these babies are mere dots, maybe half a mm across, and the phone just isn’t up to that.
