It shouldn’t take so long to recognize a fool

I’ve seen Terrence Howard in Crash and Red Tails and the first Iron Man (he wasn’t in any of the sequels, I wonder why?), and he was fine as an actor. It’s when he goes off script that you discover that he is totally nuts. Professor Dave explores some of his lunacy.

It’s 48 minutes long, but most of it is redundant — at his first attempt to explain that 1 x 1 = 2, or his redrawn periodic table, or his wacky 3-dimensional models of elements, it’s clear that he has lost the plot. And then the video gets into Howard’s 3 hour long interview with Joe Rogan, and it becomes clear that Rogan is just as ignorant and deluded and deranged and useless.

I’ve seen no more than a few minutes of Rogan in short excerpts, and knew from my first exposure that he was a fraud. Nowadays, when I see an account on social media that is trying to sell how smart he is, I insta-block that channel. I’d do the same with any mention of Howard, except that everyone sees how foolish he is, and he isn’t getting paid millions of dollars to babble for hours on Spotify every day.

I think it was this Howard interview I noticed pop up in my Youtube feed. I thought it weird that the full three hours was available as Rogan episodes are mostly locked behind Spotify subscription access right, except for teaser clips on Youtube. I don’t think it weird Rogan showed up in my feed as I hatewatch Triggernometry, Boghossian, Lindsay and other IDW propaganda on occasion. I can’t deal with Rogan much except on the occasional News Radio rerun featuring the legendary Hartman. Otherwise no.

Rogan became famous playing a crackpot on NewsRadio, and then it turned out he actually is that guy.

    and got more famous

I made it through 12 minutes of the video, which, by my math, is 1/4 of it. Not sure what fraction that works out to be in his mathematical system, but surely it’s enough by any reckoning.
I think my favorite part was the bit about the square root of two being a rational number. Disappointed he didn’t go into that. So what’s the fraction, Terrence? Or should I say, what’s the frequency, Kenneth?

Conjugations.. well, there’s another meaning of that word that’s known in conversational intercourse so to speak..

As for “flower of life”, well, what species is that? Linnean Botanical name = ???

    Exact meaning and importance?”

Oh and also never heard of him before.

I think REM beat him to him here :

Or the F1 team and car company of the same name that Ayrton Senna & Elio de Angelis plus Mario Andretti plus Mario Andretti and Jim Clark drove for…

Many people in the USA would think that refers to…Cannabis. The Cannabis sold is made by drying the female flowers of Cannabis plants.

Or, it could refer to the flowers of maize, wheat, and rice, which literally feed most of the 8 billion people on earth right now. We don’t eat the flowers but we do eat what the flowers produce i.e. the seeds.

An actor with an ego making big discoveries about stuff he’s ignorant about? I’ve never heard such a thing! It’s an occupational hazard for people who play pretend in front of other people and are told they’re so good, win awards, and make a lot of money. The smart one’s hire good handlers to keep them from doing really stupid things like pontificating on Rogan’s show.

raven #8 — I realize that my friends and I don’t constituent “many”…or even a few…but we never think of Cannabis, pot, or whatever you call it as the “flower of life.” We do think of it as “buds” sometimes because of the process growers use to make a particularly potent product. In that process, however, seeds are a sign of failure.

The Flower of Life he’s referring to is a sacred geometry. I think he’s claiming to have deconstructed it and discovered its secrets. So, you know, totally rational.

  9. Rob Grigjanis says

Flower of life, water of life (aqua vitae, uisge beatha). Whatever gets you through the night, it’s alright. Terrence has either had too much, or not enough.

Did you miss the part where 1 x 1 = 2? So the square root of two is … one.

What I don’t understand is why/how the heck he was talking at Oxford in the first part.

Well I had watched NewsRadio back when it came out mostly because Hartman from SNL but it wasn’t something that clicked with me. It even had Dave Foley from Kids in the Hall, but still didn’t land for me. I do catch it late night on one of the free streamers from time to time. I find it remarkable that Maura Tierney was in it before playing Abby on ER. That’s where I know her from mostly. And she did great on the Von Erich wrestling family movie The Iron Claw which pulled in some big time actors.

I didn’t realize NewsRadio portended current Rogan. I mostly remember him from that show where people eat roaches and stuff that Ludacris took over.

I enjoyed Whispering Pines, but didn’t recognize him.

That was the most loaded pile of batshit I’ve heard in decades.

If the question about Iron Man sequels was serious, it’s because Downey Jr. was a down and out actor for the first one and Howard got paid a lot more as the bigger “star”.

When Iron Man was a big hit, Downey Jr. of course asked for a huge pay increase to do a sequel. So Howard thought he should get a huge increase as well and basically priced himself out of the market. So the studio recast with Don Cheadle.

After that Howard held a grudge against Downey Jr. for not backing him up. X-D
(Needless to say Cheadle went on to make vastly more than Howard wanted as “War Machine” appearing in half a dozen Marvel movies. Oops.)

Anyway, what is it with Iron Man actors? Gwyneth Paltrow is notorious for selling pseudo-scientific crap.

Looks like he’s talking at the “Oxford Union” (which is nothing to do with the university or its student union). Lots of real students there and probably real alumni.
    Well… it draws a crowd.
Maybe it’s warming down from another more intellectual debate after the free beer ran out.
