Well 2020 almost ended on the perfect note (and still might…we got a few hours). People have been “joking” for a week or so about the one thing 2020 hasn’t had in the SF Bay Area is an earthquake. Well, there was a sharp jolt (3.5) at 5:41am off Muir Beach, so it was actually on the San Andreas Fault.
One of these days I’ll learn how to use this internet thing.

At least January 1 will mean getting 1 day closer to Pence officially declaring Biden as President-elect, the possibility of the two Georgia votes bouncing out the Republican’s control of the Senate, and tRump officially being evicted from the White House. As for the current pResident, there are a whole lot of state crimes to answer for, and people like SDNY AG Leticia James willing to bring the legal smack-down.

The mildly deranged penguin has still been unable to obtain confirmation They™ found the right track for Earth v2021CE… The previous orbit’s track, Earth v2020CE, was never located, so They™ grabbed a “spare” track out of the museum and hastily laid it — usually before the Earth rolled by — only later realising it was one of the Olde Medieval Plague models. A Quiet And ‘Unsettling’ Pandemic Toll: Students Who’ve Fallen Off The Grid
December 29, 20208:01 AM ET Lauren_Hodges
Teachers are working tirelessly to educate their students online, but they are growing increasingly anxious about the kids who aren’t showing up at all.
An estimated 3 million students may have dropped out of school learning since March, according to Bellwether Education Partners, a national nonprofit that focuses on underserved youth. The group’s study cited a lack of Internet access, housing insecurity, disabilities and language barriers as major obstacles to attending virtual classes during the pandemic.
I’m just relieved that 2020 is over with.
This pandemic is going to leave scars on the USA that last for a generation or two.
.1. The 10% of patients (now ca. 2 million people and going up) are now disabled long haulers and for maybe half of them, it is permanent.
.2. Here is another group. About 3 million school kids have dropped out of the school system. Most of them from disadvantaged demographics.
Being minimally educated and literate in our ever more complex society is going to make their entire life harder.
Some areas are making efforts to track these kids down and get them back into the school systems. I suspect in many areas, due to lack of money and interest, no one is even keeping track.
Well, Happy New Year anyway.
