Yes, beautiful. I wish you would show them here more. I haven’t figured out…actually I haven’t tried…how to see them at the other places you are posting to, so it’s convenient to have them here. I get that seeing pictures of spiders might creep out some folks…my mom could not watch a snake in a movie. But below the fold with a big “Spider pictures” warning seems fair.
The wife and I found a large, multi-colored insect in our garden yesterday. It was mostly green but red and gold. Haven’t a clue what it was.

Do you know the derivation of the species name Philodromus? “Lover of dromedaries?” I get nothin’ from a Latin-English dictionary. Google translate thinks it means “Click”.

IANA etymologist, but …
“Drome” means (roughly) “run” – a “hippodrome” is a horse-racing track. Dromedaries are racing camels.
“Philodromus” loves to run.

Thanks all, and I am an idiot for trying to interpret it as latin roots when it’s greek.

Gad, I have stayed away from Pharyngula for ages because I seriously couldn’t handle all the spider images. Dared to take a peek about a week ago and was pleasantly surprised to learn that you had started putting them “below the fold” a long time ago. A belated and sincere thank you for that, and I unfortunately missed a lot of other good content here. That is on me, but deep-seated childhood fears and all that. You can post all the cat photos you want, though, please….

With that name it really should be a Roman Emperor or a Mad Max fight location.

I really don’t mind the spider pics being here. I think they are cool.

Left Handed Atheist @7 has a good point. I’m not in any way squicky about spiders (what a lovely wee hairy lass!) and below the fold is a good idea, but it doesn’t work on iPhones. There’ll be a simpler way of flagging spidersnaps for the arachnid-adverse but it may need to be in the post title

I don’t know. Ask Thorell (1870) who named the philodromidae. Common name is the Running Crab Spider, but that doesn’t help at all.

Think Greek… ‘philo’ and the meaning of dromedary
