Yay! The Creation “museum” and Ark Park are closed as of today, and they’re keeping them closed until 2 April (they’re optimistic, I think they’re going to be closed a lot longer. My university is closed until at least May). There’ll be a little less miseducation going on for a short while.
I do wonder if Dennis Prager will accuse them of “panic”.
So why would God suddenly intelligently design this virus some 10,000 years after the creation? Just asking, I know he works in mysterious ways . . .

In other museum news, CNN has been running a story that now ALL of the Bible Museum’s 16 very expensive ancient Dead Sea scrolls are forgeries. As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say, if it’s not one thing, it’s something else.
They should re-open April 1.
The closure was announced Sunday but they didn’t close until Tuesday because they had a job fair on Monday.

Yes, stories about congregations insisting on sharing communion wine, insisting on prayer meetings because they couldn’t get infected because religion. But then of course, as in South Korea, they do get infected and emerge to pass it on. Fancy getting yourself killed because someone else wants to talk to their imaginary friend.

Wait. Won’t their god protect them? I used to hear that from religionists all the time. Did their god just meet his match with a few attograms of organic matter?
I talked to my brother in Florida a little bit ago to check on our 90+ year old mom. While he wasn’t explicit, I got the impression that he thinks the pandemic is a lot of hoopla over nothing. He probably just doesn’t get it because he’s thinking “flu” and he’s suspicious of anything that might disrupt the Trump juggernaut. There are just under 200 known cases in Florida now, but the state has 4.3 million people over 65 (20% of the population) so the viral devastation among seniors could just be getting started.

I predict that coronavirus will spread like a bushfire among certain religious folks because they do actually believe that their god will keep them safe. Just look at South Korea.

I know folks here are on the reasonable side, but what i get from a lot of other “generation sandwich ” people like me is that we#re equally stressed out about occupying our kids and keeping our parents from killing themselves.

Once we get to the otherside it will interesting to see (well primarily to see what the other side will be like), what effect this all has on religion. Will people re-embrace their irrational beliefs? Or will they see that their holy water, laying on of hands and general mumbo-jumbo has no real world effect on anything. I would think the removal of holy water and magic biscuits must be having some sort of effect on the belief set of some Catholics.
How do they fundie faith healers show their faces again when they could do nothing to stop this? Will people ask that question?
@20, They — “faith healers” and other quacks, “mystics” and other frauds, “prophets” and other pedophiles, &tc — will simply lie, lie, and lie. E.g., as to why the situation seems to be under control (), what happened (), who was affected (), and so on. Lie, lie, lie, lie, and lie. All whilst asking for donations, loansharking and selling dubious products, buying from distressed people, insisting environmental & standards be lowered / removed to social-economic recovery, etc, etc, etc.
Magic sky faerieisms didn’t disappear after repeated bouts of the Black Plague, or the “Spanish flu”, or… (historians can fill in the details, please!). Nor did astrology or other absurdities.
