IIRC, there actually are studies on the sociology of the rich, and although they didn’t give anybody money, they did manage to track a few people as they got richer, and this was pretty much what they found. (Also: belief in the Just World Fallacy increases with wealth, unsurprisingly.)

I’d be fine with this. Almost fine.
I just wish it didn’t also happen to idiot-Americans who just THINK they’re going to be rich… some day.

I think I’m in the control group.

I’d like to see a study in which rich assholes are made to give up all their wealth, possessions and financial ties, then show us how easy it is for them to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.

No control group.Clearly we cannot trust the results.
I am willing to take the money and call it an exploratory study.

Sufficient, but not necessary.

I’d refuse as a matter of principle, of course. Very expensive principle, if you catch my drift.

Perhaps they’re part of a double-blind study where participants are assured they shall be rich any day now. But the placebo control group would have it even worse, being told they are rich until, after the experiment concludes, they’re presented with a final demand for their accumulated debt.

I suppose the group that believes they are going to be rich one day overlaps thoroughly with the group that believes that Judgement Day will come during their lifetime.
They must live with the weird fear that Judgement Day will come too early, robbing them of rich-on-earth time. Fucking God… amirite? Ruining all the enjoyment of that wealthiness being lorded over the neighbors…

No unlimited riches for PZ, please. He would usher in the arachnopolypse. Or cephalopocalypse. OTOH, either option beats the trumpocalypse.
