Track Palin, son of Sarah and Todd Palin, was arrested for breaking and entering. Ooh-er, it is a sordid story.

He apparently was doped to the gills on alcohol and painkillers, and had broken into the house and beaten up his father for denying him a truck or car, and then strutted about the house while armed. My favorite line in the police report is this one:
Communication was attempted which failed due to Track yelling and calling myself and other officers peasants and telling us to lay our guns on the ground before approaching the residence.
The family really does think of themselves as royalty, don’t they? Comes with being a Republican, I guess. Their prominence is a legacy from John McCain, after all.

If only the police would handle every person not in a lucid state-of-mind as gently as they handled Track. They didn’t even taze him off the roof.
He’s damn lucky he’s a rich (or, at least, his family has money; I don’t know about Track himself) white man.

Hey, let’s not be too harsh on Track Palin — everybody makes mistakes. And besides, he may be President someday, if the Republic Party doesn’t get his Down Syndrome-impaired brother Trig elected first.
If Track had been nonwhite, he would have been shot dead. The cops do that for less than what he did.
For that matter, if he had been a lower income and not famous white guy, he might also have ended up shot dead by the cops.
FWIW, this is the second time he has done something like this. The first time he beat up his girlfriend while drunk and armed.
@6 Raven … A stupid joke about his Track record occurred to me, but the fact that he beat up his girlfriend really sank in, and the “humor” turned to ash in my mouth. The hell with him.

policegoons in the States — Alaska was, in 2016, the most dangerous state (measured per capita): The state in which it was most likely you’d be shot by the goons.“Whites” were almost the least likely to be shot, with First Nations people the most likely — despite “whites” being also the most common (populous) group, by a large margin.
Broadly then, the goons’s reaction, as also said by others, seems to fit the usual pattern.
Serfdom abolished in 1861 in Russia. Alaska ‘acquired’ 1867 (no one asked the native peoples and they did not get US citizenship until 1924 though the territory then passed a law requiring voters to be able to read and write English [this carried on into statehood and not wiped away until 1970]).
Let’s not forget why Track went in to the military un the first place. It was that, or serve hard time for cutting the brake lines on a schoolbus!
The more I read about this, the more evident it is that Track Palin is violent and dangerous (particularly to his father, and I’m sure there’s a significant background to that). He’s suicidal. He appears to be addicted to Oxycontin. It was lucky this incident didn’t result in anyone being killed, but he needs serious help and he needs it immediately.
CNN is reporting that Sarah Palin issued the following statement:
“What my own son is going through, what he is going through coming back, I can relate to other families who feel ramifications of PTSD and some of the woundedness that our soldiers do return with,” the former Republican vice presidential candidate and governor of Alaska said at the time. “And it makes me realize, more than ever, it is now or never for the sake of America’s finest that we have that commander in chief who will respect them and honor them.”
It’s hard for me to comprehend anyone being that clueless.

Saudi Police? IIRC, back in the late ’50’s or early ’60’s there was a Saudi prince behaving like that and a police colonel (?) shot him. The colonel was praised, apparently.
I have no sympathy for Sarah Palin or her family. I also appreciate that “he’s crazy” is an overused excuse. However, he’s behavior seems eerily similar to my son’s psychosis last year. Given Track’s violent history and his age, it’s not out of the question that he actually does suffer from a mental illness. Palin herself claimed that he has PTSD following his Iraq tour, although she tried to use that for political fodder, of course.
If he has a mental illness, I would be surprised if his family would help him get treatment, other than to pray for him earnestly…perhaps get him an exorcism or some such. I recently read that the VA’s requirements to qualify for PTSD treatment are stringent, so he may not qualify for treatment, have access to it in Wasilla, or seek it. Like so many mentally ill vets, self-medication with alcohol and drugs becomes the only avenue for relief with all the pain that brings. The city where I live is full of such men and women.
By the way, one story says that Todd got his gun ready to “protect the family” after arguing with Track on the phone about using the truck. That’s the kind of folks they are.
He actually called the cops “peasants”? Wow, that truth must have stung.
All this because his mother is Republican. PZ surely has more insight to human behavior than anyone else ever. I think he missed his calling. Instead of Dr. State the Obvious we could have had Dr. Pull Shit Out of His Ass.

This is a non sequitur. It has nothing to do with Track being violent. I’ve never seen Trump respect and honor anybody but himself.

Correction: all this because his mother is a modern Republican who, like the rest of the modern Republicans, supports dismantling of every type of government-sponsored health-care services (including rehabilitation and mental health services that her son could have benefited from), all in favor of asking the ceiling for help instead.
