Delightful, PZ!
I particularly liked seeing how the different ‘pods took different initial approaches to movement. One in particular was clearly crab-walking. Others were using tentacles in a reach-and-pull method that nonetheless seemed to be guiding, and supplemental to jetting. Another one clearly pushed with a tentacle to get going before jetting. Others didn’t use their tentacles for mobility at all – jetting out of the egg sac and continuing to jet away. In those first moments you get a glimpse, a tiny glimpse, of the separate personalities the little blighters will eventually develop. Not at all like watching leatherback turtle hatchlings flop toward the sea, all using their flippers in similar ways. Great stuff.

Baby octopi are the best!
Especially, the way the Venetians cook them, deep fried as part of a fritto misto di mare. Very delicious!!
