I already clicked on “I’d like to read this book on Kindle”.

    Congratulations.

  2. Nerd of Redhead, Dances OM Trolls says

Dang, the Pullette Patrol™ is already lined up to order it, saving the first place in line for their Princess Patricia.

  3. tushcloots says

Was “Dancing” the first verb that came to mind for the title?

    Congrats, I’ll take two!

  4. Ichthyic says

Five Bucks says John Kwok will be the first person to add an Amazon review of your book without having read any of it.

  5. Djahn says

Personally, I’d love to see some negative reviews posted before the book even becomes available, just to illustrate the knee-jerk reaction of some of these god botherers to all things atheist. All too often they prove your point for you.

    I’m reserving my copy now.

  6. Carlie says

Amazon? Aren’t you getting a few boxes yourself to sell autographed copies for a $10 markup over the list price?

  7. says

Five Bucks says John Kwok will be the first person to add an Amazon review of your book without having read any of it.

In all fairness, it must be admitted that it’s a lot easier to review a book if you don’t have to read it first!

(My publisher is egging me on to get quotes from famous authors to use on the cover of my book. I don’t happen to be buddies with that many famous authors, so I’ve been reduced to sending out short excerpts to notable writers so that they aren’t faced with reading the whole thing. [sigh])

  8. Aquaria says

Congratulations, but sheesh, we have to wait until June?

These publishing ditzes can crank out 200,000,000 copies of fly-by-night books by losers less than a month after a third-rate celebrity dies, but they’re taking that long for yours?

    Bastards.

  9. says

I just preordered it. Am I first? Do I win something? I’d like to think that by the time it’s actually printed, I’ll have forgotten it, and it’ll be a delightful surprise when it arrives, but… I read this blog, and I assume you’ll be pimping it here, so I won’t have the chance to forget it’s coming.

  10. Adam.B says

    @Garf

Amazon always gives discounts for preorders

anyway i have my preorder down to bad we have to wait till june

  11. says

    Carlie:

Aren’t you getting a few boxes yourself to sell autographed copies for a $10 markup over the list price?

What Carlie asked, PZ. I’d pay extra to get a signed copy from you.

  12. Snowshoe the Canuck says

This is why we haven’t heard from salty dummy and his minions of moronity. They were waiting for the book announcement so they could give it bad reviews once someone explained all the two syllable words to them. When will the book be for sale north of the 49th parallel? Now that the loonie is less than the greenback, it ain’t fun shopping down south.

  13. growlybear says

Congratulations. I really like the subtitle. Waiting till June sucks to say the least. I’ve never preordered a book. Maybe it’s time for a change in approach. I did consider it earlier this year, but eventually waited till it was out for one day. Have to approach these radical notions with caution. Ha…caution be damned. Time to enter a bold new phase and commit blindly to support of the dear leader.

  14. ChasCPeterson says

Five Bucks says John Kwok will be the first person to add an Amazon review of your book without having read any of it.

    Say, that reminds me.
What ever happened to J*hn Kw*k’s novel?

  15. says

    @ Caine

What Carlie asked, PZ. I’d pay extra to get a signed copy from you.

Pay extra? I don’t think so.

Get in your car and drive to the closest PZ book-tour event. An autograph ain’t worth shit if you don’t get it live and in person.

  16. Simon says

Get in your car and drive to the closest PZ book-tour event. An autograph ain’t worth shit if you don’t get it live and in person.

Hear hear. “Coming to city near you”? (hint hint)

  17. Aliasalpha says

Ugh, I loaded the amazon page and scrolled down hoping to see an overview of the book (I presume it’ll be added later along with things like jacket art) and made the mistake of reading the ‘related’ forum thread titles they list.

    The first 2:

    Religion forum
Why are atheists so angry at someone they don’t believe exists? So dim!

    Religion forum
If man evolved from apes why do we still have apes?

They both have a lot of replies so for the sake of my sanity I’m assuming that 95% of them are people taking the piss out of the original poster

  18. says

What the FUCK is this June 2012 bull shit?! Seriously P.Z.

(You can email me a .pdf of it immediately, if you’d like. Plllleeeeaaase?)

By the way, how long did it take you to write the book? You churn out so much here, I can hardly believe that you have time to write a book. (Seriously, how much content is archived?)

  19. says

Hey ‘Tis, I just want to give you a heads up. I quoted you today. I didn’t know exactly how to cite it, but I feel as if I provided adequate back ground attached to “-‘Tis”

  20. says

I love it, I love it, I love it. Did I mention I love it. I love the title and the cation that goes along with it. I have plenty of good reading material before it’s out. But The anticipation is killing me.

  21. chigau () says

Does the ISBN make it real™?
If so, I’ll recommend it to my local library NOW.
Else, I’ll buy my own and recommend it later.

  22. says

My review should appear here in a few hours.

I warn you, it’s scathing: it takes you to task for sneering and using gratuitous invective, you asshole.

  23. says

I wish this book was released the Melbourne Atheist conference, so I could get it signed! Book won’t be out for a couple of months after that.

Oh well. Bad luck I guess.

  24. Steve Gerrard says

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,245 in Books

    #2 in Books > Religion & Spirituality > Religious Studies > Sociology

    #4 in Books > Religion & Spirituality > Spirituality > Atheism

Pretty good stats for a book that hasn’t been released yet! #4 in Atheism puts it behind two versions of The God Delusion, and a Kindle Single called The Saint. Nice company!

  25. submoron says

Good! I’ve preorderd my copy for delivery to the UK! Signed copies, whether you get it done in person or not, are often worth more money. Last time they were available, signed copies of Hitch 22 were £300 or more. So if you’re after a valuable collector’s item…

  26. Alex, Tyrant of Skepsis says

In his new book, the most strident atheist after Richard Dawkins, PZ Myers, finally reveals the polytheistic truth behind his failed attempts at living a happy life with atheism. Of course it was only a matter of time, but it confirms what we knew all along – that PZ Myers is angry at the Gods. Of course, this is a very human reaction, like a tired Child being angry with its parents when they send it to Bed. Unlike most children who, by the time they grow up, have learned to honor their parents as the wise guardians they have been, PZ Myers has never grown up and keeps rebelling. In his fantasy, he dances on the graves of those who have made him, have given him life. What better illustration could there be of the ungrateful cynicism and childish denialism that is the true face of new atheism.

Conga rats, Professor! And already the religidiots are getting their knickers in a twist … hmm, popcorn?

  28. says

    Alex:

that PZ Myers is angry at the Gods. Of course, this is a very human reaction, like a tired Child being angry with its parents when they send it to Bed.

Atheists aren’t the ones with a parent fixation, we have no need to bow and scrape to an imaginary sky daddy who will punish you if you aren’t good and don’t believe and obey all manner of nonsense.

Those who can’t manage to grow up and require the everlasting parent, those would be theists, Cupcake.

  29. AndrewD says

OK, Preordered from amazon.co.uk @£14.41. It now joins a long list of pre-ordered books.

  30. says

Of course it was only a matter of time, but it confirms what we knew all along – that PZ Myers is angry at the Gods.

I can’t speak for PZ, but I’m not angry at the gods — the poor, non-existent things — but at the evil people have done in their names.

  31. Carlie says

I wasn’t really joking – I would pay extra for a signed copy. But that would have to be a careful calculation by PZ as to whether it’s worth the trouble having a box or two lying around, the initial outlay of expense involved, waiting for checks to come in, and having to pack up and mail each one individually. (Sure, a book-signing would be better, but I doubt he’ll get to go everywhere!)

  32. Alex, Tyrant of Skepsis says

Oh come on, that was just my creative prediction on what kinds of reviews we are going to see soon. I hoped that at least the midgleyesque line in the end would give the poe away ;)

  33. 'Tis Himself, OM says

    Alex,

Considering the shit from goddists which they put on this blog on a regular basis, your “satire” was quite mild. Poe’s Law is affirmed again.

  34. ChasCPeterson says

I think Alex will turn out to be prescient. They’ll see “Happy” and “Dancing” and ask (again) ‘why so angry, athiests?!?’

The subtitle puts me in mind of the line from the Grateful Dead tune:

There will come a day I will dance on your grave
Unable to dance I will crawl across it
    Unable to dance, I’ll crawl

  35. Woof says

Embedded in some of the wankage in the Amazon forum “discussions” at the bottom of PZ’s Happy page:

Religions are advertising agencies for a product that doesn’t exist.

    NICE!

I find this rather interesting as well:

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #1,023 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)
    #2 in Books > Religion & Spirituality > Religious Studies > Sociology
    #4 in Books > Religion & Spirituality > Spirituality > Atheism

    Apparently Amazon.com is being Pharyngulated!

  36. David Marjanović, OM says

I’m… I’m ordering it right now.

First time I order a book without consulting anyone else.

  37. says

Yes — reach out and pharyngulate Amazon. Make my publisher happy, make my agent happy, make me rich, or at least moderately well off.

I’ve also started working on a second one. I’m learning from my mistakes with the first one, though: I intend to have the whole thing more or les ready before submission so there’ll be less of a slow dribbling out and more of a whambang.

  38. J Bowen says

    Ordered!

At first I hated the title, but the subtitle makes it perfect.

I suppose it’s too early for any hints as to what the second book is about?

  39. triskelethecat says

I can haz from Barnes and Noble and as a NookBook, plz? I’ll happily buy both versions but prefer B&N over Amazon.

  40. eyesoars says

I know you already asked about this, but that middle word just seems out-of-place.

    Maybe “Surly” or “Truculent”…

    /es

  41. maureen.brian says

    Ordered!

Now, PZ, when you speak to your European PR team about the tour could you remind them of that interesting space North of Oxford and South of Oslo, where you have any number of devoted fans and no shortage of either university lecture halls or bookshops? Please?

  42. athorist says

    #54 / 55 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Myers-Evolutionary-Developmental-Intelligent-Creation-evolution/dp/6130351275/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1317893151&sr=1-1-catcorr)

note the publisher is betascript, which just prints stuff taken from wikipedia (they were mentioned in Private Eye recently – used to be called alphascript). So it’s probably just taken from Pharyngula, and is nothing to do with PZ. http://www.chrisrand.com/blog/index.php/2010/02/27/odd-tale-alphascript-publishing-betascript-publishing/

  43. says

    PZ:

I’ve also started working on a second one.

Oh wonderful news! I would help pharyngulate Amazon, but there’s the little problem of me not using them. I’ll do my best on B&N though.

Triskelethecat, we’ll have to pimp PZ’s book at B&N. I prefer them too, especially as there’s one in Bismarck which I frequent all the time.

  44. Rev. BigDumbChimp says

This is probably a stupid and unanswerable question, but…

PZ what difference would it make to you financially if there was a Kindle version and someone bought that vs. physical copy?

  45. fronkey says

Why oh why isn’t it going to be out in time to get it signed at the Global Atheist Convention in Melbourne???

I don’t suppose there’s any chance of your book tour coming to Aus?

  46. Lee Picton says

Hot diggety! I have pre ordered my copy and as long as I was at it, got Why Evolution is True in paperback. That way I got free shipping for both.

  47. fastlane says

I hope you get a spot on the Daily Show!

Tell your publisher to send Jon a complimentary copy.

  48. Margaret says

To add to the requests for ebook editions, can we please have an audiobook version?

Please, please, please, pretty please with tentacles on top? Read it yourself, or you and Mary like Dawkins does. I’d pre-order that in an instant.
