Today is the vernal equinox, Bérubé has returned to the blogosphere, and the WAAGNFNP has manifested itself. I don’t know what it all means, unless perhaps that all the snow and ice is going to be melted by a giant nuclear fireball, ending the hockey season.
Kristjan Wager says
Am I the onlu one who don’t find the whole concept of the WAAGNFNP funny? It’s not because I don’t get the joke – I just don’t find it funny.

Now is the time for all good men and women to blog for the good of their country.
You know, it could mean that.
Kevin says
Hmm…if I remember the book correct, all these things together can mean only one thing…Ragnarok!!!
(and if you read that and are confused, it is from Daily Show contributer/Mac-PC ad guy Johnathen Hodgeman’s book, The Areas of my Expertise, where he lists a series of Omens, portents and signs, all eventually ending in Ragnarok).

Uh, Le ex-ex-Bloguer has been guest-posting at Pandagon for a couple of weekends. Haven’t you been following MH’s ongoing BerubeWatch series?
And KW, as Dr. Free Ride’s first post makes clear, the WAAGNFNP site will have a mix of serious, funny, and not-funny posts. Give it a chance!
Joshua says
Kristjan: I never found it particularly funny, either. *shrug*

Kristjan and Joshua –
You are quite correct. WAAGNFNP thing – not funny. But then again, it’s neither designed nor trying to be. However, it can be fun, which is a very different thing than funny as you well know. Granted, it’s probably a lot more fun for the people who’ve been playing along from the beginning. But we are making every effort to make folks welcome whether they are an “Old Timer” or not. Participation is possible without any WAAGNFNP references at all.
Please come back and visit without trying to look for the “funny”. You may just find that you enjoy yourselves afterall.
Michael Bérubé says
The WAAGNFNP does not care whether anyone thinks it is funny. But for the record, it is really not funny. Nuclear annihilation rarely is.
Running parodies of more-nihilist-than-thou politics, though — hey, that’s just plain fun!

The WAAGNFNP does party, but we leave the funny debate to those who have more time for such inflationary matters.

Quite right you are, Chariman-For-Life Bérubé. But one of my Chief Cabinet Ministers advised me that I ought to be “kind” during our opening launch (seriously).
So I got about 2 more days of “kind” in me (at best), and then the velvet gloves come off to reveal the iron fists of Justice we all know and love. Praise Astaroth!

K ‘n’ J: as it turns out, a few days ago I put up a post at Mostly Harmless that points everyone toward the funny. It’s a moving target, but Claire and norbizness have been locked in this year. They may even be ready to give The Editors and the Sadly, No! crew a run for their money his year.
Porlock Jumior says
As G. K. Chesterton (if I may mention him here) said (as slightly edited by me):
Serious is not the opposite of funny. The opposite of funny is not-funny.
