Yearly Kos stampede!

Everyone is going to be there now—Duncan Black is going, so are the Firedoglakers, and oh, yeah, me. Not yet in the press releases is the fact that the lovely Dr. Mrs. Gjerness Myers will also be attending. It’s going to be quite a crowd at the Yearly Kos. Anyone else joining the gang?

There will be so many of us, I don’t think we’ll need to worry too much about the blustering wingnuts showing up with ax handles (by the way, don’t these right wing kooks ever consider the meaning of their words? Or is it intentional?)

Now if only it were being held in an interesting place. At least there is one spectacle I’m going to have to try to make time to see.

Gosh, and skippy, too.

You’re going? Bah, now I really want to go. Unfortunately, it’s still kind of out of reach for me, being all the way down there in Las Vegas and all. Plus, I’m an impoverished student.

They should have that con in Toronto, I tell you. You know you would love Toronto. :)

Blaming bloggers for the ill-considered remarks of their commenters can work both ways. I asked a question at AmericaBlog and one of Aravosis’ commenters threatened me.

    *shrug*

I didn’t “squink up a storm” about Aravosis.

I am lucky enough that I’m going to be able to tie this event in with a friend’s bachelor party in Vegas. It’s going to be quite a trip….

    Commissar:
how about blaming COMMENTERS? Personally, I feel the jackass commenter is the one who deserves the disdain.

And I’ll tell you what: I’d so love to see some of those tools show up and get their asses removed. I know it’s not PC, but hell, after all these years of their lies and posturing, it would be cool to see them get some back.

This comment in no way reflects on PS Myers, the blog Pharyngula, or Scienceblogs LLC. duh.

It should be an interesting crowd, and a good party. But I’m dubious that Kos is the political wagon I’d want to hitch to. I haven’t read his book (has anyone here?) but he seems pretty cynical from interviews. Winning at all costs stops short of being a win, IMO.

OTOH, we may actually be at a point where ‘not Republican’ is good enough.

‘Lies and posturing’ shouldn’t be enough to suppress speech. We want it for the turds, or we don’t want it. Party crashing by misguided people with good manners might not be that bad. The last fucking thing I want is for Dems/Progressives to win, only to find out that they morphed into the other side…and hating someone for their politics comes awfully close.

the paradox is, for the Dems to Win Big and in a Longlasting Manner, they need to do a Bill Clinton and Move To The Center. that’ll turn off a bunch of tradits in Democratic land and Who Knows what the outcome will be.

not that anyone cares but i’ve decided that democratic politics, like employee-employer work and “work ethics”, is a mere game. hence, i won’t be playing for the next couple of rounds. i’ve vastly simplified my criteria.

i’ll essentially trash (in the voting booth and elsewhere) anyone who doesn’t support Cape Wind, per:

    http://www.capewind.org/

it’s not that Wind is So Important in the sense of Joules. it’s that it — and other wind projects — are symbolic, not the least being because of the New View of US energy independence they offer tourists.

the connivers who are trying to do Wind in are of Both Political Stripes: Lemon Yellow.

so, ekzept, are you coming or not?

j/k! one need not subscribe to the kossian world view to attend the vegas convention. dr. myers will be heading up the science roundtable, and amb. joe wilson will be on the panel discussing the outing of his wife v. plame in the press. so, it’s more a lefty thing, rather than a specific “democrat and/or markos mouslitsas” thing.

    it will be party!

  8. Rheinhard says

I really, really want to go, but already have plans to attend another convention in Anaheim, CA just 3 weeks later. It would look kinda funny taking the time off from work for 2 trips so close to one another.

  9. says

“so, ekzept, are you coming or not?”

no, per “hence, i won’t be playing for the next couple of rounds. i’ve vastly simplified my criteria.”

The only way the Dems can move to the centre is by going Left.

As for axe handle boy: He has no intention of picking up and axe handle. His soft, orange hands might get splinters.

  11. Randy! says

Damn, now I really want to go. I agree that Kos isn’t the best representative, but it should be a good party with lots of fun lefties. There’s also a work-related convention going on at the same time, so I’ll be able to write-off the expenses! Yay!

  12. vachon says

Yup, I’m there. Booked, paid for and got my “J-Lo Mold” name tag all set.
