A new version of Tim Minchin’s Pope Song.
It ends with
But if you build your movement on intellectual authority
And believe it is to benefit others in society
Then you, you motherfucker, can expect some talking back
When people get assaulted and you never fucking act!So fuck these motherfuckers, and fuck you motherfucker
If you call yourself a fucking skeptic
Then you cover for each slimey motherfucker who says something sexist
Fuck you, your apologetics really are patheticAnd if you look into your motherfucking heart and tell me true
If the good name of atheism is that important to you
With its problems with harassment, abuse, and also fucking RAPE
If you’re all sad in your pants then go ahead and write a blogpostBut if you find this song more offensive than the possibility
Of leaders protecting rapists and treating victims with hostility
Then listen to me, motherfucker, I don’t give a tinker’s dam
And fuck you Shermer, Dawkins, Harris, Randi,
And you can keep your fucking TAM!
Maureen Brian says
It goes viral, it goes global and still Dawkins thinks it can be hushed up?

*intercom chirps*
Feminace, please report to Vice Principle Nugent’s office.
Lady Mondegreen (aka Stacy) says
Slow clap.
otrame says
oh, very nice. Nice when someone you admire comes down on the right side.

@otrame says
It sounds like you think that Tim Minchin himself wrote or sang this new version. Someone else actually wrote it, and I’m not sure Tim Minchin has seen it or commented on the sexual assaults.
Janine the Jackbooted Emotion Queen says
Feminace wrote the revised lyrics. You can get to her blog post at the link Ophelia provided at the top of the page.
Feminace says
@creechymonkey:
Never! *run away cackling*
…though seriously, I’m both shocked and pleased that this parody got so much love. I’m glad to provide at least a little giggle in the midst of all this WTFery.
Funny Diva says
Oh, yikes. Hope Feminace has battened down the hatches for the inevitable tsunami of abuse.
Glad someone took on this project, though! And did it so _very_ well.
Wowbagger, Heaper of Scorn says
Well-known pit-creep Damion has shown up there to JAQ off; Feminace very sensibly told him to shove off and peddle his scumbaggery elsewhere.
Marcus Ranum says
Quick, someone get Nugent a fainting couch!!
Janine the Jackbooted Emotion Queen says
Funny Diva, she is well aware of the abuses. That is why she wrote what she did, she is angry because of the abuse being done to defend those people.
pneumo says
Misleading. Tim Minchin did not create a new version. It’s not even a new version.
This is a *proposed* parody version.
Please edit to reflect.
(not that I disagree with the new lyrics)
chigau (違う) says
Ophelia
Yes.
You must now edit your post because pneumo cannot click links or read comments.
I insist.
sonofrojblake says
It’s not misleading. You only need to attempt to read the lyrics out loud to realise they’re not written by Minchin. Minchin’s lyrics rhyme and scan.
Which is not to say it’s not an effective retooling making a point that needs making. But if you think those lines sound like Tim Minchin wrote them himself, you don’t think much of him.
Athywren says
Aww, for a moment, before I read the lyrics, I thought it was an official edition. Now that would’ve been cool! Not that this isn’t cool, but it would be nice to discover the position of someone I appreciate on something important and not feel like I was completely wrong to be a fan of them.
Anthony K says
So, despite the clear disclaimer warning ‘pitters they aren’t wanted and won’t be tolerated, several of them still obliviously show up to pull their schtick.
Why are they always going where they’re unwanted? Are they incapable of comprehending the concept of wanted, consensual interaction between people? Don’t they have that in their lives? Do they not know it’s different than how they interact?
Anthony K says
And they’re still pulling the ‘y no police?” bit. They obviously didn’t understand the point of the original Pope Song either.
Dan says
Could we possibly get someone to sing this and post it as a video so hopefully it would go viral?
I’d really appreciate that. They could just have the lyrics in the video and not their face if they wanted to be anonymous. I’d do it myself but I can’t sing.
A Hermit says
Fun song, but DAMMIT! you sent me down the rabbithole and I’ve just spent an hour reading that excellent blog instead of doing whatever it is I should be doing…
John Horstman says
@Anthony K #14:
Explains a lot, eh?
Anthony K says
It certainly explains their reaction to A+. “How dare you just not be into us? How dare you decide you don’t want to interact with us? If we didn’t go where we weren’t wanted, we’d never go anywhere at all! It’s #misandry! We’re #braveheroes!”
pneumo says
On of my many pet peeves is inaccurate descriptions. I cannot apologize.
Ophelia Benson says
Feminace @ 7 – thanks for the laughs!
Feminace says
IKR? And coming in with the same nonsense they’ve spread everywhere else. I lurk like a mofo round these parts before starting my blog. I know names, I know shticks, but they seem to behave as if I have been plucked from the Cabbage Patch two days ago.
And I don’t have time or patience for it, so I’ve been “snarky comment/block” instead.
Josh, Official SpokesGay says
Shut your yap pneumo. No one cares.
screechymonkey says
Pneumo’s nitpicking isn’t even correct. A parody generally isn’t performed by the original artist, and it doesn’t imply the original artist’s permission or approval. From the moment feminace wrote those lyrics, it was a parody, not just a “proposed” parody.
Josh, Official SpokesGay says
Nuh Uh Waht Do You Mean Its Sposed Ta Bee Official Endorsed Or It’s Not a New Version I’m a Dim Pedant
Anthony K says
@Feminace, #24
For what it’s worth, I’ve been loving your smackdowns in the comments. No fucking around, no indulging them in their desperation for attention, just a snark and a buh-bye.
It was frankly refreshing to see. (And you warned them beforehand, and left their comments up, so if they want to complain about freeze peach, they can go sing their song at Coyne’s.)
screechymonkey says
Anthony K, but how am I ever going to get my Bingo card filled?
Anthony K says
It’s not worth it. Even the full card prize is just a five-by-five matrix of bullshit.
A Hermit says
Heh…I was preparing a long snarky rebuttal to our old friend d4m10n and then I realized what feminace was doing…so I just LOLed instead….
Janine the Jackbooted Emotion Queen says
Not just d4m10n, jbrisby and Steersman also.
It is like they could not resist the bait feminace left them.
Though she warned them beforehand.
A Hermit says
Yeah, I’m still picturing poor Steersman helplessly staring at his latest 1000 word comment (complete with FOOTNOTES™!) and realizing no one would ever see it. You just know he was preparing a series…
changerofbits says
Bravo Feminace! Simply recalling that this exists at random times during the day brings a smile to my face. Bravo!
Feminace says
I’m very unhappy with Steersman attempt to mention lynching without saying it (referencing that movie). I’m sure he’s not aware that I’m a black chick and it really shouldn’t matter, but fuck, comparing my very pedestrian attempt at a parody (yes, I know some of the lyrics don’t scan exactly, I’m not much of a musician) is anything like a lynching is just…no. NOPE. NOPEITY NOPE NOPE.
Anthony K says
Wow. I’m so sorry you had to put up with that bullshit on your own blog.
Janine the Jackbooted Emotion Queen says
Nothing should stand in the way of comparing the words of SJWs to actions like witch hunts and lynchings.
Though those same people like to point out that “criticism is not harassment”.
Also, Steersman is a extremely long winded bore.
Wowbagger, Heaper of Scorn says
As many of us noted right from the very beginning of the ‘pit’s existence, false equivalence is their number-one shtick. Hence their trawling of ancient comment threads for anything they could try and spin as ‘abuse’ to use for tu quoque justification of their harassment of feminists.
Feminace says
…and Damion seems to not get the “buh-bye” hint. *sigh* Some folks refuse to learn, and it’s not my job to teach them.
Wowbagger, Heaper of Scorn says
Yeah, their sense of entitlement seems massively overdeveloped – along with their skewed perception of their intelligence and writing skills. But, as I’ve been saying lately, this is what happens when you try to build a movement by telling people that they’re super-geniuses for reaching the rather pedestrian conclusion that gods don’t exist.
Feminace says
I figured out the “Christian God isn’t real” bit when I was 12.
If I could also figure out there was more for my ass to learn back then, so can these folks.
pneumo says
@screechymonkey #26
I gratefully accept the rebuke. (Fun times: Place the quote. No wait, maybe not so fun.)
Neither am I denying that I am a dim pedant. Haters gonna have a valid point sometimes.
