More from “how to be a really high-quality doormat for God.”
This past week the local Preparing class invited two older mothers to share their experiences in marriage. It was quite sobering, and some of the girls came away from class unnerved by the burdens of marriage. What the mothers wanted to convey to the girls was, “Learn now while you are young to honor your husbands. Learn patience to continue in your role as a Help Meet, and commit yourself to God now while you are young so you can avoid some of our trials and errors as we struggle to find our way.”
Great. The girls were “unnerved” by the prospect of lifelong slavery, and what “the mothers” want to convey to them was “learn now while you are young how to be a good obedient self-denying self-immolating slave to another human being who gets to be the boss of you because he has testicles.” Learn that you don’t matter; learn that your dreams and hopes and plans are just fluff inside your head; learn that you are never going to have a full life of your own, but only a share of someone else’s; learn that you have no rights, no authority, no power, no autonomy; learn that you have to put up with whatever is handed to you. Learn what it is to be an inferior.
Today’s culture, our own selfishness, and our lack of knowing God’s Word all play a part in making marriages miserable. What you learn as a young unmarried woman can change your life more completely than you can imagine. If you are wise you will learn to become a many colored girl. Don’t say to yourself, “I am a go-to girl and not a servant.” Rather say, “I am learning to be anything I need to be. I want to be a servant, I need to learn to lead and teach, and I will learn to be creative because my husband may need me to be all of these.” Practice being flexible in your likes and dislikes, how you feel about things, and what you hope to accomplish. Start striving to shape your life to help others, and hide God’s Words in your heart concerning becoming a wife. Lastly, make a written commitment to honor the man God provides for you.
What an absolute horror that is. Practice being flexible in your likes and dislikes, how you feel about things, and what you hope to accomplish – in other words just forget all about wanting anything, feeling about anything, and hoping anything; just prepare to do what you’re told for the rest of your sad diminished life.
That is such an outrageous thing to tell anyone. This terrible woman is telling all the women she can reach to obliterate themselves in this way. It’s evil. It’s not just mistaken, deluded, unfortunate – it’s a moral outrage.

My atheist wife and I have been reasonably happily married for almost 38 years. While culture has some effect on our marriage, god has had none. Neither has selfishness, which is correctly described as one cause of miserable marriages.

God chooses you’re husband (since you, a woman, cannot understand God’s will, I assume this means your father or pastor make this decision.) and you must commit yourself to him before you even know him.
That’s fucked up.
A sheltered individual with few skills, little knowledge of the outside world, being taught to always find fault with themselves first and bend to any whim of her husband’s. Any attempt to leave or choose a different spouse is prohibited and warned against. It’s been said a million times but this is a recipe for abuse.

And sometime the man God chooses, via your pastor and church elders, is a convicted pedophile.

This song seems fitting:
and to pick what I feel is the most poignant verse,
“One little girl
Is beaten ’till she faints
Told that this is love
Told that she will have to take it
One little girl
Is just a bit confused
Thought that she was human too”
As much as I enjoy the song, musically, it’s rather sad that it exists (in that such abuse exists to inspire the song to begin with, to be clear).

Here’s more on the groom in the link above, from the Southern Poverty Law Center. Doug Wilson, the pastor in question, is the guy who debated Christopher Hitchens in the movie “Collison”.

Wipe your mind out clean and fill it with someone else’s crap.
In Cherry’s Union universe there’s these “humans” called azi whose minds are designed and they get tape (kind of like in the matrix) to feel, think and learn things as needed. So for instance you want to fuck your slave, you can do it and he’ll like it no matter what because you give him reward tape afterwards.
We don’t have the knowledge to design a mind yet, so we have to resort to articles like that one from Debbi Pearl.

Notice the appeal to authority–from mothers to girls, as if experience and wisdom equate to right. Notice the attack on culture, as if culture and family are two separate things and culture (meaning democracy, equality, freedom, and all those things) are enemies of the family.
This is propaganda of the most fascist kind. I’m reminded of Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, that’s the direction it leads.

Well, let me see:
My atheist grandparents were married for 59 years. They seemed remarkably happy and loving and caring.
My atheist parents have been married for 40 years, although sometimes I don’t understand why.
Mr and I have been together for 12 years come December and married for 4 of those.
But on the other hand, I know god’s word. I only think it’s utter bullshit.
But I’ve noticed before how they try to create a “back-door”, a “he may be the head but we all really know that they are just men“:
They fill the girls’ heads with those ideas about secret power, about being indisposable, totally needed, because we all know that if men are left on their own they’ll start drinking out of the dog’s bowl and wear their underwear on their heads…

I had a look at the “problems page” of this filthy little website and found something so repellant I feel anger like I haven’t in a while. A woman wrote in, explaining that she and her husband had become pregnant; something they had both hoped for. Sadly, she miscarried. The christian response is the most disgusting, shitty piece of uncaring sewerage I have ever read:

Here’s the closing sentence, to show you the love being offered this woman and her husband:
It is time you resigned as chairman of the universe and leave it to God to do a little “baby sitting” until you get there to take over for him. I am sure your baby is in the best of hands.

Oh dear god, PaulG………………..That guy is sick.
Also…
So why is abortion such a terrible thing then?
PaulG says
Ophelia Benson: Because, you silly little lady (who really should be at home cleaning and cooking, hmm?) only the hateful POS who sits up there watching us masturbate gets to decide which babies are born. How dare you question him?
Also, apologies for the clumsy way it turned out in my 1st comment: SHE became pregnant, it was WITH him, and they both wanted it. Slip of the fingers when typing.
