No, this isn’t another post about Pat Robertson’s stunning ignorance. It seems that the Westboro Baptist Church were inspired by his line of thinking and have launched a new website: God Hates Haiti (NOTE: Visiting their site probably gives them money, so visit at your own guilty conscience). You’re greeted with an image of a smiling Westboro protester amidst the rubble in Haiti, and a list of links about why Haiti received God’s wrath.…
Yeah, I really have nothing to say other that fuck you, Westboro Baptist Church. You hatred is so fucking predictable that I’m having a hard time being shocked by it anymore – and that’s pretty scary.

In addition, hopefully Fred Phelps dies of natural causes soon, so we can protest his funeral.

You're right. The hatred and insensitivity of the WBC is no longer shocking. What does shock me, though, are the number of people out there who do support Pat Robinson and try to make what he said okay.
I just wonder how many of those people would also try to justify WBC's message. They're considered a fringe group, yet it seems like I hear more and more people sounding like them all the time. When I first heard Pat Robinson's statements, I thought he'd gone out and joined them.

@Veritas:Screw that, let him be gutted or burned to death or something horrible. Feeling a bit cruel towards his likes, the slimy amoral fuckbag.
This isn’t even remotely surprising at all. Personally, I’d just love to see a TV report:
“Even more deaths in Haiti today, as a group of protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church, out of Topeka, Kansas, who were picketing the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent lives lost, were brutally stoned to death and lynched by a large mob of outraged Haitians. Their remains were never found.”

How can Phelps possibly get money from people visiting his website? Who would pay for it? There's no advertising on that site other than other WBC sites, and I can't think of a model other than advertising where people pay you for hits on your site (if anyone knows of one, let me know – I know people who have ideas that no advertiser with a brain would support but that would generate a million hits per day). What it may give him is bragging rights, but that's kind of like bragging rights for an auto accident – sure a lot of people slow down to stare, but it's not because they want to be part of it themselves.
And I'm utterly not surprised by this bit of hate from the Phelps clan. My decade+ of Phelps watching has sussed out the very complex, very complicated theology of the Westboro church. "God hates anyone who isn't part of the Westboro church". Shockingly complex, but there you go. It would have been far more surprising if Phelps had come out and said that the disaster in Haiti wasn't because God hates Haiti but was rather a semi-random occurrence caused by plate tectonics. THAT would have been a shock. "God Hates Haiti" is another bit of lawsuit bait from the Phelps clan – one that I'm sure will eventually get one of them slugged across the jaw and result in a very lucrative lawsuit payout for the church.
For a good look at Phelps's Gospel of Hatred, check out the "John 3:16 lie" link on that Haiti page. That's the kind of well developed theology of hate that you expect from Phelps and it's very consistent. It's a form of Calvinism but without the apologists who want to try to make Calvin not sound like a hateful raving loon. It's a form of Christianity that is one of the most logically consistent given an inerrant view of the Bible – it's also really damn disgustingly vile. Phelps really is a textbook case of how thin a line there is between a Poe that mocks extreme Christianity and actual extreme Christianity – a decade ago I was sure that Phelps was actually conning people, now I'm sure that he believes what he preaches and that he thinks God is going to destroy everyone in the world except for the couple dozen people who make up the Westboro Baptist Church.

That's a photoshop job. I wonder if the lawsuit happy WBC remembered to use public domain photos or if there's a photographer somewhere who could be getting a lawyer on retainer to give the WBC a taste of their own medicine.

This story made my local newspaper today, on the other side of the world. Although we do love to point and snigger at y'all, the journo made clear, however, that there was little sign of anyone actually listening to the douchebags, for Americans were giving on a large scale.

Hell, by their own reasoning, apparently god made 9/11 happen AND Katrina happen. So I guess god hates america and shitty little baptist churches too.
Of coarse, there would have to be a god for any of that to be true, and since it's not, they're obviously not going to say it. It's funny how people use the excuse of an imaginary man in the sky to be able to express their racism and hate.
