[serious mode] Death threats are not okay. I will grant you that. Anger, yes, spite, absolutely, but I draw the line at advocating for violence.
As with respects to the student, that is actually quite chilling. What happened to freeze peach? My Google-fu could not confirm this incident occurred but if anyone can find word of whether this actually happened and who it happened to, please let me know. I’d ask what kind of fucking duncecap thinks they should legislate on issues they’ve never heard of, but we already have the answer.
McCrory said he’s been called a bigot. “I’m the farthest thing from a bigot,” he said. “I love everyone and I’m going to treat everyone equally. I want to treat people who are transgender – I want to hug ’em and say I love ’em. But I don’t agree with the concept of redefining gender. That is a major societal change.”

How dishonest. He frames this as a civil talk between equals. He’s a lawmaker using his power to enforce his view on a largely powerless community. Fuck respect.
I tried a DuckDuckGo search for mccrory death threat student 2016 and couldn’t find anything but the same line you quoted – but, fyi, this post came up 2nd on the list…
Man, I still remember physically shaking after that scene in the 1984 film of 1984 where Winston gets disinvited from a charity event.
Oh look, it’s guilt by abutting sentences, just like GWB did with Saddam Hussein and 9/11. I notice that not only does he avoid saying the student threatened him with death, he doesn’t even actually say he has gotten death threats. He just says they exist. Somewhere, out there in the nebulosity of those people.
Now, it wouldn’t surprise me if he had gotten death threats (there are assholes on every side of any issue), but the weaselly way he put that makes me suspect he has not.

The various search combinations I could come up with so far have resulted in multiple articles with McCrory claiming to have been verbally assaulted, an op-ed about teachers arrested at pro-student protests, but nothing about a student arrested for making threats against him, or for verbally assaulting him, or even just making a scene by yelling in his vicinity. The only records I can find of the incident all begin with some form of the words “Pat McCrory says…”
It didn’t make the local news on my side of the state, or any other part of the state, as far as I can tell.
