Over at Evangelical Realism, we’re working our way through Justin Martyr’s First Apology, and we’ve come to the second of his “incontrovertible” proofs that Jesus is the Son of God. Would it surprise you to find out he’s taking an Old Testament passage out of context?

Well you see the thing is… The magic of the bible is that you can take any passage in any context you want to prove whatever it is you’re trying to prove – as long as you’re a christian. Being a Real True Christian™ give you the magical power to read the text and just ‘know’ what it’s supposed to mean.
Or at least that’s how it was explained to me. Magic. Yup.
