Well, here we are: finally caught Covid

positive Covid test

When I woke up this morning with a lightly sore throat and a headache, I didn’t think any of it. After all, I’d had a terrible night. Last night some guy rang our doorbell at about 10 p.m. and asked if our caravan was for sale (it’s currently parked in front of the house) and only accepted “no” number five, so all night I woke at the lightest sound, afraid that somebody would steal it.

I went to work where a colleague told me that her husband caught it and her son, who is my pupil, probably as well. I still shrugged it off, but did a routine test (which we are officially no longer allowed to have). Now, this part is important: I always do my swabs thoroughly. No “just touching the nose lightly”. At first I only saw the C line. I put it to the side as I was expecting a phone call and forgot about it. When I looked again after 20 minutes or so, there was the faintest line visible. Not sure if I was hearing the fleas cough, I did a second one. This time I poked the swab down my nose as far as I could. On that second test, the T line appeared before the C. The conclusion is double:

  1. Don’t assume “yes it says 15 minutes, but it’s still clean after 5 so it’s ok”
  2. Taking your sample well is important.

Now, so far I still only have a sore throat, headache and a bit of being groggy, but we’re also in a heat wave, that doesn’t help. The kids and Mr are clean so far. Let’s hope it tays that way. Of course I’m missing the fun week at school again…

Oh Giliell I am sorry, especially at the timing. I hope it’s a very mild infection.

I’m wishing you won’t get any more serious symptoms as well.

At least you’re home. Two of my colleagues got covid while on a work trip in Australia. One of them said it was an extremely boring week in an antipodean hotel room.

I cought it about eight weeks ago. Knocked mild symptoms the first day, knocked me flat the second, recovered swiftly in the following three.

And then a cough developed. I’ve been negative for six weeks, but that cough will not go away.

Hope you make a good recovery! One of my students in the Lab got the covid. They went into quarantine and it seems no one else of us was affected.

    Hurray for vaccines!

    damn, I’m sorry.

Completely anecdotal, but I feel like there have been a lot of people in the social periphy of my life who have gotten COVID recently, but were fully vaccinated, and had relatively mild symptoms.

Here’s to hoping you have mild symptoms and recover quickly and completely.

I am so beyond words angry that this became a political thing…

    Glad you’re doing OK!

I am recovering from a dose of covid, too. With 3 vaccination shots in me it was still pretty bad. I don’t want to think what unvaccinated would have been like.

Well, looks like I gave it to Mr as well. He’s 3, we didn’t do that stupid “in sickness and in health” thing, that’s not fair!

Giliell, wishing you 110 % recovery!

I just came back from visiting my parents in Tampere. Before going there, I did a couple quick tests just to be sure (not that I meet a lot of people normally here) and carefully suggested on the phone that my parents also do a test in advance. They did, though my dad mentioned he tends to often have difficulties with sampling. As in, “there’s clumps of snot that come along and block the extraction tube”.

Last night, at a bus stop on my way home, I had my first ever experience of someone telling me “Take off that mask, the corona is gone now”. That was about 30 minutes before I was home, opened Twitter and saw your photo of positive test result.

I can assure you that it is most certainly “not over”.

    Day 3
This morning was okaish, I did some crafting, but I’m not up to speed and tire easily. I have also lost my voice and communicate with the kids via text messages. Mr is worse off, I think.

Sorry to hear that you got covid! Hope you’re doing better and that you and your family have a speedy and uncomplicated recovery!

  11. StevoR says

belated but sorry tohear this and wishing you as smoothand speedy and complete a recovery here as possible.

  12. says

Well, I’m getting better, but am not well. #1 apparently caught it from me before I knew I had it. The little one was probably saved by her current “Urgh, people, I’m in my room if you need me, please don’t need me” phase, which means that we’re running a complicated schedule in order to not infect her as well.

  13. says

@Giliell, I am glad to hear that you are getting better. I do hope that the “better” translates to “well” soon.

  14. Jazzlet says

Glad you are doing better, hope #1 has a mild case and the little one remains COVID free.
