Tree Tuesday went missing while my mother was sick, but it’s time to get things back to normal, so we’re back. This week’s tree was sent in by Avalus, and it’s a beauty. I absolutely love the light and the perspective in the first photo. It seems to capture a bit of the tree’s personality. The second photo of the bark of the tree was surprising to me. Thanks for sharing, Avalus.
This is a 135 year old redwood tree planted in a park near the town of Dörrenbach in the palatinate. What an amazing tree! I found the bark especially peculiar with all these tiny ripples.

We have a row of quite impressive Douglas firs at the local cemetery. You can see them only in a few places in Finland (and no redwood at all, to my knowledge).
Just recently I was flabbergasted to find a young (ca. 10 m tall) Douglas fir growing on a roadside, hugging a north-facing cliff, just across a motorway from the cemetery. The place is very close to my home, but not easily accessible to pedestrians. I see the old trees have been spreading their seed, and now the youngster is already old enough to also have cones on its own. It’s rare to see any non-native conifers growing naturally over here.
@lumipuna: That reminds me, I collected some of the seeds the tree was shedding (and some fallen cones -- they are beautiful as well)
Maybe I can get one to germinate.
