I love the autumn, especially the colour show of the trees and bushes, but so far our trees are still green. There’s the odd red or yellow leaf, but this year the trees are making me wait. It isn’t all drab, though. Autumn is also the season that big pots of colourful mums start to appear around the neighbourhood. Mums are hearty at this latitude and can even withstand a bit of freezing and they come in so many rich shades of reds, oranges and yellows, even delicate whites. I love them all and I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last photo of mums that I’ll post this fall.
I have some rusty coloured mums, but the buds are still tightly closed. They are so cheering.
My favourite colour of mums! They’re always such a bright spot in autumn, and so hardy, all the colours are one last breath before winter greyness, but this is my favourite shade of all.
Checked into mums for my situation, which is very shady. They need a minimum of sunlight, which won’t happen until the maples on the parkway loose their leaves due to frost.These days, that is early November and going later due to climate change.
Mums are great, they just keep blooming, when most others are through for the year. Wonderful!

To my knowledge I have never seen these where I live and I have no idea what kind of plant they are *scratches head*.
They’re a specis of chrysanthemum, locally they’re called mārtiņrozes, after the feast of St Martin because they can still bloom around that time and are quite frost-resistant (in Latvian, Mārtiņi -- November 10, in pagan times a post-harvest feast to signal the beginning of the winter season, the end of pasturing livestock and hunkering down for the cold months; it is said that this is when spirits begin to walk at night, and the most common entertainment was dressing up in freaky costumes and visiting your neighbours to avert bad luck -- which was done until Meteņi, a feast in February/March, to mark the beginning of spring (or spring-like weather)).
I love the colour of the mums. The big one in the lower middle part of the picture, slightly to the right is like a pulsating multipointed star.
Beautiful colour! I love mums and I have a few colours too, but not this one. It’s still to early for them here, November/December is when they bloom. I’ll try to remember to send some photos then!
