Our local strawberries have been uncommonly flavourful and sweet this year. The small ones in particular are almost like candy. I’ve been overindulging, but the season is almost at its end and soon they’ll be gone for another year. That’s OK though, because now local raspberries and cherries and blueberries are ripe and ready and they too seem extra sweet this year. Maybe it was the late spring or the early heat wave, but whatever the cause I plan to keep overindulging in all the fresh produce that’s on offer.

Did Jack get anything? I suspect he was less impressed by the fruit.
Oh, they all look so good! Must stuff myself on fresh fruit now.
The blackberries in the back yard are just ripening. Might put a few on some ice cream.

My first dog used to delicately eat raspberries straight of the canes.

Ah yes, I have a bowl of strawberries, bought at the local market, waiting for me in the fridge.

I don’t know about fruit but my sister’s dog was an avid fan of corn on the cob. She would very carefully roll the cob of corn so that she got all the kernels without getting any of the cob.
We think she learned about it, from the neighour’s dog.

Jack is not a fan of fruit which means I get to eat it in peace.

I’m imagining he must have been a small dog to be able to eat raspberries and not get prickled.

Jack eats corn on the cob, but he picks it off the cob and let’s it fall onto a plate before he eats it. He can’t quite seem to get pick and eat together.

She was a German Shepherd! The raspberries were not very prickly, but I think that avoidance of the prickles there were was one of the reasons she was so careful, another being that she learnt that if the berry didn’t come off easily it wasn’t ripe enough. The springer spaniel would hoover up any fallen berries, but never learnt to pick them. I miss those canes, we used to get pounds of raspberries from them every couple of days in season, could have got more, but there was a limit to how much time I could spend picking them and still leave time to deal with them. For some reason the canes we put in her have just never thrived, I think perhaps we should start again with a new set and lots of bed preparation.
