Wonderful shot! I love wasps as subjects, even though they scare the hell out of me. Most of the wasps around our property are the solitary, non-aggressive kind, for which I’m grateful. I love the way they look.

Thanks, Caine! I love wasps too, they look so elegant. I’ve been stung four times that I remember, but I never have severe reactions to it and somehow I’m not afraid of them.

I’m anaphylactic where wasps and bees are concerned, so I’m wary, but I don’t carry around major fear like I used to. It was photography that got the better of that fear -- my desire to get good photos overcame the fear. I often think that photography is seriously underrated and underused as therapy.

Oh, I completely agree with you on that!

Yes to photography as therapy! It’s what got me over my spider panic. I got over insects after taking a course in entomology, though -- handling and identifying dead specimens several hours a week did wonders.
And wasps are beautiful, this is a lovely portrait. Clean those mandibles!

It’s really amazing just how much the hunt and the desire to get that shot overcomes seriously deep fear.
