Ciara – Paint It Black – UPD Crew. Note: If you’re one of those asses who just has to moan about how this is horrible, how can you do that to a ‘classic’, save that bullshit for somewhere else. I fucking love this cover.
How can you do that to a classic? Eh? Finally someone does this song as sexy as it deserves -- it’s always had that winding vibe, this just takes it to the proper level and then some.
I quite like it, apart to the autotune. I don’t think it adds.

They do it both ways, simple, bare and droning as well as big and orchestrated and exhuberant. And they make it work. I like the original, I like this and I like the version by Smack (which was the probably the one I heard first).
Ice Swimmer, I like that cover too! Love the guitar work.

At least one of the guitarists in Smack (Rane Raitsikka [real name Harri Jäntti]), who stayed in USA for over 20 years after Smack’s attempt to break it there went bust, is still active and plays now in a hip hop crossover group called Atomirotta (Atomic Rat) and is married to Ville Valo’s ex-gf (this is a small country).
I would be destroyed with astonishment if you did not complain.
It has always annoyed me that the first verse rhymes “black” with “black”.
That’s done more than once in the song, and the last verse doesn’t rhyme at all. Perhaps they should be dragged through the streets on a hurdle for such a crime.

I enjoyed the video very much.
I liked the original but I never really understood the lyrics.
Now I do. (sort of)

I was around when the original came out, and I always loved it, but it never gave me chills. This one does.

Rane’s half sister Manna (wearing the black turtleneck in the video) is also musically talented, a singer.
I don’t know about the other guitarist or bass player, the drummer is a builder/carpenter nowadays and the singer is dead.

There’s a name I have to love.
If it’s the one he was engaged to, he has my sympathies.

I think the best “covers” are the ones that create new art from the old.
Songs like Joe Cockers With a Little Help from my friends, John Farnham’s Help, and probably the best of all time, Zoot’s Eleanore Rigby.
And, apart from the opening 45 seconds, I love this Paint It Black.

Hey, you got your nym to work! Congrats.

Is it okay if I complain a little about the original song? It has always annoyed me that the first verse rhymes “black” with “black”.
