They are significantly rare here too. All amphibians are rare nowadays, and in CZ are all protected by law. Too much water polution -- the spawn require fresh and clean water. I get some adults in my garden pond, but never the spawn, the water is not clean enough, unfortunately.

So cute. I love frog eyes, they’re so soft and limpid and big.
We don’t get many frogs in the backyard, but out in the country, with a lot more water around, you can gather quite the collection in the run-off ditch and out in the field, too. I’m not sure where they spawn, but there’s a few sources of clean-ish water around, and apparently they manage somehow. The storks seem to do well, too. :)
