Gorgeous dinosaurs! Years ago, we got loose in a little farmyard not far from us, and I got to shoot a whole bunch of geese, ducks, and roosters and hens. The roosters were my fave, they have the most fabulous eyes, and there are some downright weird types of roosters. One of them looked like a demented white poodle, but it was so hyper, I couldn’t get good shots.

:D These are rescue laying chickens, ordinary type -- they were obtained ftom a commercial farm as aged chickens. They all started out scrawny and somewhat featherless, but a few months of fresh food, fresh air and free roaming have done wonders. Delicious eggs for everyone! They like sitting among the black currants, it’s like a jungle.
(The rooster does get a bit bossed about from time to time, but he still has his glorious tail!)

They’ve recovered so well. In the beginning it was clear, they didn’t know what to do outside or with all the barn space and tended to huddle and peck each other’s feathers off.
Me, I like a free ranging bird. ;) They always come home at night, too.

Poor things! Decent treatment is so easy, and goes such a long way. Why people persist in doing things in the shittiest way possible, I don’t know.

Rick used to talk chickens at me, to which I would always respond: Uh huh, and you’re gonna tell me you’ll promise to clean everything out, and you’re gonna build them a proper house for winter? He stopped talking chickens.
