They are beautiful. There is something magical about the light on some winter days in colder climes.
And I can’t see the words ‘Winter Light’ without thinking of the album of the same name by the band Oregon. It includes a cover of Jim Pepper‘s “Witchi-Tai-To“.
Wonderful colours.
Living by the sea clearly has some huge advantages.

Some notes and background:
Topelius Park, Sibelius Park and Toivo Kuula Park are in Töölö in Central Helsinki. Zachris Topelius was a man of letters in the 19th century. Jean Sibelius and Toivo Kuula were composers, active in late 19th and 20th century. The name Kuula means ball (made of metal, glass or other such subtance) and also colloquially bullet (especially one that’s spherical). Toivo Kuula got in a stupid argument during a drinking party at the end of the Finnish Civil War and ended up getting shot with a revolver to the head and died a few weeks later in the hospital.
The pink building in the first picture is Töölö Church. The second is taken on the island Kustaanmiekka in Suomenlinna Sea Fortress. One of the islands in the picture in is unlike the others, what is it and where? The day was the Independence Day of Finland.
In the third, the park is mostly to the left. The cafe (kahvila in Finnish, kahvi is coffee and the -la ending makes it the place of somebody or for something.) is very popular. To the right of the cafe are some storage buildings of a sea kayaking club.
The Sibelius Park in the fourth in between Topelius Park and Toivo Kuula Park, west of former and east of latter. The yellow building is Paulig Villa, which is used by some youth organizations.
I don’t remember if the tree in the last is actually a spruce or a fir.
Looks about like 2pm Riga time. :) The colours are beautiful, somehow muted yet strong against the paleness of the world. Slanted light is the best light of all.

Yeah, all the photos from Töölö and the Suomenlinna photo were taken about 2pm to 3pm in our shared time zone, early December (11th and 6th). December 11th. I got out of the bus at Topelius Park just because the sky was so dramatic and light snow was falling beautifully from a partially clear skies.
Also I forgot the mention the spruce, I love its pointy arm. Used to be an old pine with a pointy arm like that, we used to use it to find our way home. This one, however, looks more operatically expressive.
