The 18-year-old man who drove through a crowd of 40 protestors was charged Friday with provoking assault and released on a $1,000 bond, police said.
Five people were injured when Nick Mahaffey rammed his white Nissan pickup truck into a group of Columbus Day protestors in Reno, Nevada, last week.
Police also charged two protesters involved in the incident. James Fletcher and Samuel Harry were both charged with simple battery, CBS News reported.

You have “copy,000” where the bond is stated. I clicked over to the story. It is $1000. ONE FUCKING THOUSAND DOLLARS! That is horrifyingly small. He should have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon at the least (several counts), or possibly attempted manslaughter/murder. I bet if the races of those involved were reversed, it would have been different.

Johnson catman:
Mmmrf, thank you for catching that, corrected now.
No bet.

No bet, indeed. I mean, yay for being charged…?

But he’s a good boy, and those nasty women were in the way of his busy schedule of being a bag of severed dicks.

This is exactly why whenever I’m called for jury duty I eagerly comply. Because that shit would be different with me on the jury. Although I don’t think this went to a jury trial, but still. Get involved in your local justice system: be a juror.

I’m not overly interested in being language cop, but I’m sure with little effort, you could do better, without bringing up images of sexual violence. That kind of thing, I don’t like. The failure mode of clever, and all that, ohan?
Caine says
Kestrel:
I don’t think it’s gone beyond charges at this point, and I’d be willing to bet there will be a no trial plea agreement.

“Provoking” assault? And the people he ran into are charged with battery? So the official version is that by driving his truck into a group of people, the driver provoked his victims to strike him? Why is he not charged with assault and battery or attempted murder? HE used his truck as a weapon and struck several people with something weighing several tons more than anything his victims might have wielded.
