In Finnish osprey is kalasääski (literally fish-mosquito) or sääksi or kalasääksi. Sääksi was the original name and kalasääski may have originated as a typo.There also many places with sääksi in the name such as Sääksjärvi (osprey lake, at least half a dozen exist) and Sääksmäki (osprey hill) .

In Latvian it’s zivju ērglis, the fish eagle. I wonder if that’s a commentary on its diet? :P ;)

Very cool. We have some of those here in Az. They hang around the lakes mostly in the Northern part of the state.
