A Massachusetts convoy of Trump supporters drove from Wrentham to Foxboro in their trucks, RVs and SUVs on July 31 and were caught on tape spewing racist epithets and calls for anti-black violence.
“Lynch the ni**ers by their d*cks!” said one driver, according to Winning Democrats, which highlighted a YouTube video of what the “Make America Great Again” convoy talked about on its CB channel when they thought no one was listening.
“Burn every single ni**er!” said another driver.
“All I know is we got plenty of trees to hang ni**ers from,” said another.
The convoy drove five miles from one township to another with their U.S. and Confederate flags waving.
“It would be nice to think that Trump supporters, once seeing and hearing how their comrades in idiocy truly behave, would have an epiphany of some sort and come to their senses,” wrote Charles Topher at Winning Democrats. “The problem is, they’re Trump supporters. They’re the ones driving those trucks.”

Now, these people may not yet be spouting off like this at work, or the local diner, at least not this explicitly, but where expressing this bigotry did have a sense of shame attached, so at least people who thought this way kept quiet, are all now loud and proud of being vile bigots, and Trump has openly encouraged this, via his constant railing against political correctness. Even if the jackass loses, and here’s hoping, it will take many years to beat these bigots back to the fringe once again.

I really have to wonder Trump is trying to do “The Wave” (the 1981 Bruce Davison film), trying to get the US’s ugly side to expose itself and that he’s not actually serious about encouraging this garbage. But that might be too much to hope for.

No, that’s not what’s happening, unfortunately. Trump had very close ties to Roy Cohn, of all people, and it’s quite clear that Trump is quite bigoted, and he celebrates this sort of thing as “yay, see, people aren’t afraid of political correctness anymore!”
If you bother to distill all his speeches down, that’s all he’s actually talked about, political correctness.
It’s truly a sad reflection of the US that the loser of the next presidential election will potentially have more impact than the winner.
I was thinking “where are the cops?!” but then I realized they’re probably in that truck with the ATVs and the flags.
This right here is the real problem. Trump is an effect of this. Trump losing the election would be a very good thing, but these people won’t go away. At best, they’ll go dormant again and wait for the next bigoted xenophobe to run for president. If America didn’t have so many of these people, Trump would have fallen by the wayside long ago before the primaries.
Too bad that entire convoy couldn’t be “twilight zoned” to a road in Somalia (or similar).
The continuing appeal of the Confederate flag just baffles me; what on Earth are these people thinking?
But even more so in Massachusets ffs -- didn’t you guys send a whole bunch of native sons to put down that insurrection? Many of whom didn’t come back?
This fuse has been burning since Obama first took office. I remember reading about the resurgence of white supremacist groups after his first election and being shocked when I saw my first “put the white back in the white house” bumper sticker on a minivan in an upscale suburb of Chicago. Trump is the racist explosive keg the fuse had been burning towards.

More since the Civil Rights Act (timeframe): Dummies from the South, who were then outwardly racist, jumped from that rat-infested hulk. Those that hopped about the thugs’s rat-infested hulk help to propel what became known as the “Southern strategy“, perhaps best summarised in this famous quote from Lee Atwater:
Prior to roughly that point in time, “Jim Crow” “laws” were used to keep the dummies(mostly?) in power in the South. Since about then until about the beginning of this millennium, teh thugs have generally had control of the South by, as Atwater (and others) have said, whispering or sending out codes for “n***er”.
Speculating, the election of Obama blew up that cosy bigot-based money-and-power grab, resulting in the more and more open Demented Bigot Syndromes we are now seeing (Obama Derangement Syndrome, Clinton Derangement Syndrome, Muslim Derangement Syndrome, …).

Unfortunately, in recent years the flag of the former Confederate States has become popular among conservative whites in every part of the USA. There is a lot of irony in its being used as a symbol in Massachusetts.
