Now Showing: Mittens of Romney vs. Newton of Gingrich in The Bainwreck

I don’t know if you’ve been keeping up on the latest comedy stylings of the GOP traveling clown-car show. Latest update in pure text — I’m working without links here folks! The pro Mittens but absolutely-not-coordinated with Romney SuperPAC laid down a beating on Gingrich in New Hampshire by pointing out what lying, cheating sack of shit he is, and now a pro Newt but completely-unconnected to Gingrich SuperPAC is returning the favor by pointing out that Romney is a spoiled corporate maggot who went from rich to filthy chomping its way through the corpse of the middle class. Rick Perry joined in the feeding frenzy on Willard at least temporarily, but his true appetite for rotting flesh remains to be seen. [Read more…]

The Mittmentum builds in wake of NH results

Of course no one expected Mitt to lose, everyone expected him to win big, and most articles I’ve seen this morning are trying to figure out an angle where he didn’t win big enough and therefore doom is in the details. I think that’s BS, Mitterns won plenty big enough. Now the clown car moves to South Carolina, where we can only hope certain disgruntled clowns cause more trouble than help.

Elsewhere, it was nice seeing Hunstman and Paul coming in with good numbers and reaffirms my view that even the craziest part of the crazy New Hampshire conservative base is far smaller, or maybe just more sane and thoughtful, than the mean or moderate part of the same base anywhere else. My big bottle of schadenfreude, or any antique bottle of laudanum that happens to come my way, is that Rick Perry was crushed. Anyway, without further delay, results below the jump: [Read more…]

Iowa Caucus: the afterbirth

Results: AP | CBS | CNN | DMR | Google | NYT | Politico | Daily Kos

Mitt Romney squeaked by Rick Santorum by a whopping eight votes as of this morning to edge out a razor-edged win in the Iowa caucus. The former Massachusetts Governor and current serial flip-flopper will now take to the airwaves proclaiming the unbridled, unstoppable power of his Eight Vote Mandate By The People. Santorum meanwhile will be met with dozens of steely eyed advisers intent on convincing him he could actually win, mostly so that said steely eyed advisers can try to separate as much money from Anyone-but-Romney voters and divert it into their paychecks and expense accounts as they possibly can before the cruel ministrations of electoral reality set in. Let the games begin again, and speaking of games …

More games, this time in the state of Iowa, where a horde of baby-cookin psycho conservatives will square off against a couple of merely bug-fuck crazy established Republicans for a title that means absolutely nothing. I should be around tonight, bringing you all the gory details as they emerge. Win, place, or show? Anyone but Romney? We’ll soon find out.

I can do this now, because, and really I do thank whatever powers that be, the holidays are now officially over. O-V-E-R goddamit! Which means those of us stuck in dead-end retail tech support jobs, We who Spent the last three fucking weeks explaining to grandpa and grandma how to set up little Johnny’s Christmas PC, or how to insert a gaming disk (No, the disk drive release is not a coffee cup holder Bill in Pa), or the mysterious inner world of plug-in surge protectors (No, Na-na Betty from Phoenix, the micro-transformers in the surge protectors bear no relation to the video game characters called Transformers), may get some actual relief. Major sites consider going dark in opposition to new Internet legislation

You may not have heard much about the Stop Online Piracy Act or SOPA over the last few weeks. Holidays can be like social Trojan horses when it comes to unpopular new laws. But the netroots has heard of it — we’re against it — and now the Internet giants of our era are considering a dramatic move to bring the ill-conceived idea into the harsh scrutiny of the soon to be very pissed-off public eye: [Read more…]

All I want for Christmas is more of this

There was a time when the GOP effectively hid their fealty for the robber-barons behind a facade of Jesus swaddled in small government patriotism. It worked for years. But alas, by 2008 those policies disintegrated, epic fail across the board, leaving foreign policy in paralyzed shambles and the national economy in tatters. From that point on the mask was off, the political hounds and media minions were unleashed to spread naked zombie lies and hatred, the real money behind this bizarre shit exposed:  a tiny sliver of zillionaire wackos obsessed with getting every last dime they can beg, borrow, or steal and exploit a populace not just devastated by those same ideas but who bailed the wealthy out of their own sinking ship. So, seeing them get their clocks cleaned was a nice holiday surprise: [Read more…]
