Big coal demands God’s will be done

Up on deck, coal PR crews — including one named Twinkle — in and around Alabama have challenged residents to see that God’s will be done. And God’s will, surprise surprise, is for big coal to maximize profit by avoiding pesky regulations and throwing the climate off kilter for a millennia or two:

HuffPo — Pushing back against new Environmental Protection Agency standards limiting carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants, Alabama officials gathered Monday to argue that the new federal policy flouted the Almighty’s will by regulating a God-given resource.

“Who has the right to take what God’s given a state?” Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC) member-elect Chip Beeker asked during a news conference held in the offices of the Alabama Coal Association on Monday, according to AL.com.

By 2030, the Obama administration’s new rules would require Alabama to reduce carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants by 27 percent from 2012 levels.

Alabama’s PSC officials, however, view the new standards as an “an assault” on the state’s lifestyle, and are accusing the Obama administration of purposely seeking to diminish coal-related jobs.

“I will not back down,” PSC President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh said Monday, claiming that the new EPA regulations will cost Alabama 16,000 jobs. “We will not stand for what they’re trying to do to our way of life.”

Dominionism, the fusion of corporate and political entities where the strongest and meanest are, by specious definition, the most divine. Because God wouldn’t let them prevail if they weren’t part of the grand cosmic plan. So you better not talk about even playing fields or free market competition or any of that commie crap.

ah, so we have theistic evolution in the coal industry. I wonder, will the usual lunatics who deny evolution decide that the coal industry is satanic?

nah. but it’s fun to watch.

Meanwhile, here in Texas: “Texas Ranked 10th Most Expensive State For Energy, 1st For Greenhouse Gases”

I’ve noticed this since moving back from Ca. While fuel for the car is cheaper, our utility bills are much, much more expensive. Food costs more here in Texas, and property taxes are 3 times as much. I much preferred paying the state taxes out there and seeing my money used for things that actually helped the public, like decent public transportation.
I’m also wondering how much higher the cost of medical care if here in Texas for people with asthma and other medical issues that are affected by the unfettered pollution.

I’m sure there are numerous Native American tribes that would ask that same question.

“Who has the right to take what God’s given a state?” Considering that no one’s taking their stupid coal, what are they complaining about? In fact, the feds are telling them, “Keep the coal, we don’t want it after all.” Shouldn’t the god of Alabama be pleased about that?

Hmm .. an obvious alternative would clearly be that since God put the coal in the ground that’s where S/He/It wants it left!
