The lady who rose to national prominence holding the line for sanity against the usual teaparty-backed lunatics in early summer appears to be leaning more and more toward a run for Texas CEO. The Texas Tribune now reports Wendy Davis, a lady who knows the pressure of being a single mom first hand and went on to work her way through college and law school, has further narrowed her options making a gubernatorial run more likely:

Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, said Monday that she will either run for re-election or for Texas governor, and that she’s working hard to make her decision. Speaking at a National Press Club luncheon, Davis said those were the only two options, and that she’s not considering joining the lieutenant governor’s race. She did not indicate when she’ll make up her mind.”
I’ve heard through the local Austin grapevine the two biggest considerations for Davis are the effect on her family and how a series of polls and fundraising analysis turns out. The latter should be completed by early Fall. Davis is no stranger to the worst the right has to offer: last year ago her Ft Worth HQ was firebombed after a prior filibuster.
It would be a classic David and Goliath struggle. Texas is ground zero for the culture wars. The state is home to some of the most powerful, partisan hard right bloc backed by some of the wealthiest good ole white boys on earth.
I think there is a good indication that the Democratic Party will not reproduce the mistakes made during the last Mid-Terms elections of 2010 when they failed to attract their own base and misestimate the Tea Party’s firepower with the generous help of the GOP. The latter issue seems to be over, though.
The situation is even more pressing as the GOP is trying hard to push legislation limiting the voting rights of minorities now that the SCOTUS gave them free rein to do so. The Republicans sure know gerrymandering might not be enough to win.
In addition to Wendy Davis’ rising profile, we should add the Cruz brothers as strong contenders for the Lone Star state gubernatorial race.

If she runs, it will actually make me sad that I recently moved out of Texas, and thus won’t get to vote for her.

LOL – DH is short for dear hubby. I’ve used it so much on groups where I chat with others, I guess I just took it for granted that it was used commonly on the internet.
Wendy Davis is not likely to win the Governor’s race but she is definitely one of the best shots the Democrats have of winning that particular race. What makes Davis the most attractive candidate for the Governor’s race is that she would energize the Democrats statewide and build turnout in all the other Texas races.
Texas had a Democratic governor not very long ago. The idea that there is no way a Democrat could possibly win is nuts. Here is Massachusetts the voters have elected a succession of Republicans as Governor because they know the Democrats have a lock on the state house and don’t want one party government. The same argument might work in Texas.
The downside to her running is that it might cost the Democrats a seat in the House, but that is always a risk.
