Andy & Barney kept me company on many a boring day and night

Andy Griffith has made his last curtain call. Playing the perfect, quiet country straight man to his brilliant side kick deputy, Andy and Barney kept me entertained on many otherwise boring days and nights, from college to middle-age. The duo provided fodder for backwater cable TV, the Comedy Channel, and even racy adult-esque music videos (WARNING) like the one below that will live on forever. He was 86 years old.

If you’ve never seen Elia Kazan’s A Face in the Crowd, see it. Griffith plays a hypocritical, manipulative TV icon. It’s a good performance, and makes me wonder what might have been, had he done more serious dramatic work.

Not that Sheriff Andy Taylor is a bad legacy. Goodnight, Sheriff Andy.

If you want to see something else where he played against his Andy Taylor/Matlock type, check out “Pray for the Wildcats”.

As a bonus, you get William Shatner, Robert Reed, Marjoe Gortner and Angie Dickinson, too. ABC Movie of the Week – I saw it when it aired (which means I’m old).

    Bummer that he’s gone.

Damn I’m old. I used to watch The Andy Griffith Show before it was in re-runs. See ya Andy…

I has a sad, now. My dad and I used to watch The Andy Griffith Show every Saturday morning.

Because I feel that the sentiment is appropriate, I will echo Stacy. Goodnight, Andy.

I’m so old I first knew him as a (very Southern) comedian. From his hick’s description of Swan Lake:

And the curtain fell and time passed.

    A fitting epitaph.

And yes, Face in the Crowd is fabulous.

    I’ll miss him.
