A murdering thug is on his deathbed and conflicting reports have emerged on whether he’s dead or alive. Either way, the world can rejoice:
NYT — Former President Hosni Mubarak, who led Egypt for three decades until he was toppled last year in a popular uprising, was on life support at a military hospital late Tuesday after he was declared “clinically dead” by doctors, according to Egyptian officials and state news media.
He is or was 84 years old. Why do the worst human beings on earth so often lived to a ripe old age? It seems like a caring god would smite them, or at least give them a horribly disfiguring case of face cancer.

They couldn’t find a cancer that would horribly disfigure itself with his face.
Ba-dum tish!

Yes, Mubarek has/had a face that would make the Sphinx blush. And what about Ariel Sharon? He’s been dead-ish for years, yet Yaweh doesn’t seem to want to smite the bugger for good.
Budda boom.

…and don’t get me started on Khomeini, or wossname, Chiang Kai-Shek. And his cleptocracy wife lived until she was literally a hundred years old.
Mao fortunately was so loaded down by blubber that he underwent survival failure a bit earlier.
Stalin died in his seventies, because Beria and the others of the politburo deliberately prevented doctors to get access until it was too late to save him. S. was at the beginning of a new purge, targeting both the jews and his older associates, so millions of Russians were saved this way.
.
His henchman Molotov lived to a ripe old age, as did Rudolf Hess.

Unfortunately, the political situation in Egypt is not materially improved from what it was when he was in control. The military appears to be hanging on to power. Here’s hoping our brave progressive brothers and sisters in Egypt can rescue this situation from the authoritarians and the religious obscurantists!

They come in third place in every democratic poll, so I would not hold my breath in that regard.

Patience. We’ll be getting weeks of “Generalissimo Hosni Mubarak is still dead” updates in due course.

I am afraid that Egyptions a year or two from now may well be longing for the good old days of Mubarak.

Mubarak an old tyrant on his deathbed jail cell.
Unwanted dead or alive.
But the options remaining – back to where they started with another military dictatorship, the old PM now the new ‘un or, perhaps worse, the Muslim brotherhood and their Islamist insanity.
So much for the Arab spring.
Eygptians may one day look back on Mubrack’s regime with nostalgia as the good ole days.
Wish it were otherwise.
But reality ain’t always what we’d wish for.
Depressing. That whole flippin’ region and political scene.
Very depressing.

Something Egyptians, Aussies, Americans – all have in common -not much hope on the political horizon.
