Update: Thank Odin, Hardball explained just now that voting for an alleged adulterer, Herman Cain, is bad. Voting for an admitted one, Newt Gingrich, is OK.
Reports are swirling a women will or has come forth and claimed she and GOP presidential former contender Herman Cain carried on a 13 year affair:
(MSNBC) — Cain offered no specific rebuttals to any of the forthcoming claims, explaining that he would not respond to allegations before the report had aired them. But he did acknowledge a relationship with the new woman, whom he called an “acquaintance” that he had tried to help. “We will address these when they come out. At this point, I just want to give you a heads-up, I don’t have anything to hide,” Cain said on CNN.
The lawyer for the family values candidate offered this laughable evasive response:
“This appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life,” attorney Lin Wood said.
Unless, of course, they happen to be Bill Clinton. Or some other Democrat.
What is the name of that lawyer? I want to be sure I never use that shyster.

While agreeing with you on the hypocrisy of the right wing nuts, I’ll say this about Clinton.
What he was accused of doing was NOT a private affair. He had a form of sex with a White House Intern. (IN the Oval Office, hence at HIS office). As such, she was an employee of his, and his superior position juxtaposed with her unprotected internship (not covered by the Civil Service rules protecting her from instant dismissal) puts him firmly in a position of having sexually assaulted her, or at least harassed her. Just like a minor has no legal ability to consent to sex, an employee has no presumption of having the ability to say “no” when sex with a boss is involved.
This was not a private affair, it was misconduct AT THE OFFICE, and as such, a normal Federal employee caught in such conduct would have been fired.
Even if she had consented or even been the instigator, he was the more powerful individual, and should have had the sense and responsibility to prevent the affair from occurring.
Of course, if he had stood up in front of the cameras and had admitted the affair, apologized for it and pledged that it would not recur, he wouldn’t have spent the last two years of his term fighting an impeachment.
@#4, rwahrens: Yes, Clinton used his position of authority to engage in sexual conduct with a willing underling. Just like Cain attempted to do with unwilling underlings.
Clinton is a prime example of what I call an Intelligent Fool. Cain is just a plain fool.
LOL! I agree, except that what has always puzzled me is how damn smart Clinton always was about politics and campaigning. It seemed to me that his refusal to admit the affair was some terrible blind spot of some kind. Otherwise, he seems too smart not to have known how to have gotten past that problem.
As a former President, Clinton has been almost superb. It makes his actions in office seem almost childish by comparison. Foolish is a good descriptor.

At a rally in South Texas before he became President, when he was doing the hand touching thing with the crowd after his speech, he locked eyes with me, grabbed my hands, and nearly pulled me out of the crowd–over my (then) 5 year old son. I panicked about falling and let go. He slowly moved on. But there was no doubt–he’d tried to make a move. That’s when I knew all those rumors about his skirt-chasing were true. He was blatant about trying to score.
@rwahrens You know, if the Republicans had framed the Clinton affair as a case of workplace sexual harassment then I at least would have heard them out, maybe even been on their side, although I believe it would have been incumbent on Ms. Lewinsky to press such charges.
However we know now from prominent Republican activists (Rush etc.) that there is no such thing as sexual harassment, that’s just a made up thing the liberal media uses to attack conservatives.
Would this apply even if the adults are of the same gender?
