Pope Francis asked forgiveness for priests who sexually abused children.
But we must not forgive anyone who sexually abuse children. No priest should get any chance to get away with their heinous crimes only because they are priests. Actually they should get greater punishment because they are priests, they are not just ordinary x y z. Priests are mediators between humans and God. When children are fucked by priests, it seems priests get divine orders to fuck children. Or God himself is inserting his messages into children’s anuses with the help of priests.
Parents send their children to priests because they trust them, like they trust their God. Priests are supposed to save children from all the evil forces. It is an unforgivable crime if priests abuse children when they are supposed to save children from being abused.
God can forgive priests, but I, for one, will never forgive any rapist priest.
Al Dente says
I also won’t forgive the Catholic hierarchy who supported and protected the child raping priests. That includes His ex-Holiness Benny Ratzi.
Menyambal says
Amen to that! Never forgive them.
Priests should be punished by the church, most severely, but never forgiven, forgotten or dismissed from the church—removed from all priestly duties and privileges, but kept in penance as a reminder to the church—all while the church does everything possible to help the victims and to help the secular authorities prosecute and punish the priests, also.
Never forgiven.
(I just realized that I didn’t specify child-raping priests up there. But I’ll leave it as is, because all priests are responsible for each other, and many may be rapists, and even on their best days, they are priests. Punish them all, God will know his own.)
maried says
To hear him apologizing for all abusers you’d swear he was jesus himself dying on the cross for everyone’s sins. How sick can it get. But that’s the crux of religion isn’t it? No one takes responsibility for anything until they die at which point they can be forgiven for anything as long as they repent. How easy religion makes it to sin at your leisure when there is no punishment in this life.

And why does a post to a free thought blog have to await moderation?
অভিজিৎ (OV) says
Each sentence in this blog is powerful. Yes I also agree that ” they should get greater punishment ” because most people follow them. People follow their words, their advice.
“Priests are mediators between humans and God”
The way this sentence has been written in this blog it seems like it’s writer’s opinion but actually it’s not, because we know it’s a belief of certain percentage of people (probably most people). what I mean to say is this sentence can be written in different form (like ” Many believe that Priests are mediators between humans and God” ). It’s just my opinion not a big issue , because writer must have thought a lot before writing this. Thank you so much for this blog.
M can help you with that. says
The priests might be forgiven…after they’ve admitted their crimes and made some sort of restitution acceptable to their victims. Until such a time, it’s not my place or Pope Vol de Mort’s to forgive them.
Schlumbumbi says
This has to be THE most unreflected blog post in the history of FTB.
1. Neither God, priests, nor YOU have the right to exercise “Vicarious Redemption”. You don’t get to decide whether someone else is forgiven, or not.
The only person who gets to decide whether he/she forgives a perpetrator, is the victim of the crime. And that’s EXACTLY what the pope demands of the priests – the priests must personally apologise to their victims and beg for forgiveness. And if that’s good enough for the victims, you just shut the fuck up and let them live.
2. “Priests are mediators between humans and God.” — Rubbish. They’re nothing but humans. But it’s very telling that you want to punish them by an entirely imaginary standard, instead of a secular one.
This article was a short but stupid outburst of religious drivel. Shame on you.
steve oberski says
Schlumbumbi, your view on justice is very tribal and primitive. In secular, post-enlightenment societies the state is given a monopoly on the use of violence exactly so individuals do not take it upon themselves to wreak havoc in an ever escalating spiral towards anarchy.
Ask yourself why the pope did not command these priests to immediately turn themselves over to secular authorities so that true justice could be done and be seen to be done.
Ask yourself why the pope did not offer to turn over all church documents to secular authorities in order to assist in the pursuit of justice.
Ask yourself why the pope did not command all catholic clergy and laity to immediately assist secular authorities in the investigation of these heinous crimes.
The answer would be that the pope, like all catholics who provide any degree of moral and financial support for the multinational crimimal paedophile organization known as the catholic church, are complicit in the crimes perpetrated by catholic clerical kiddy fuckers.
Schlumbumbi says
“Monopoly on the use of violence” ?
I don’t know what you read, but it wasn’t my posting. Nowhere did I plead for vigilante justice, or anything that runs along these lines.
My point is very simple to understand.
A crime committed against a victim is not to be re-defined as a transgression against god, or the state, or anyone else BUT the victim. While the state may enact punishment on behalf of the victim, forgiveness is the sole domain of the victim. Noone else but the victim has a say in whether a perpetrator is forgiven, or not.
May I quote the last sentence out of Taslima’s aritcle?
This is “vicarious redemption” revisited. To claim that it was upon her to decide whether a perpetrator is forgiven or not, is to rob the actual victims of their dignity, their integrity and their agency.
For the rest of your statement:
1) He did call for state punishment of the perpetrators. Read the article again if you missed that point.
2) “…did not offer to turn over all church documents to secular authorities” …
There is no secular standard, by which you can demand a person to (A) incriminate him/herself in front of the law and (B) make that person force his subordinates to potentially incriminate themselves in front of the law, with complete disregard for the legal and moral boundaries that actually forbid him to do so.
Call it self-incrimination, call it self-flagellation, it doesn’t matter – what you demand of them, is to hurt and maybe even destroy themselves. That itself is immoral.
Whatever you think you’re argueing for, it’s not a secular stance.
steve oberski says
You are quite the asshole troll, aren’t you ?
Feel free to quote as many sentences out of context as you wish, anyone who is not a complete idiot or apologist for catholic kiddy fuckers understands Taslima’s position quite well and does not need a moral degenerate like you to explain it.
You really can not free yourself from the idea of justice as punishment, can you ? That’s understandable, it’s standard catholic dogma.
I’m not arguing for anything, I just think it’s important to point out what a complete load of bullshit you have excreted on this site (and others, you are quite the busy little troll, aren’t you ?).
I’m not into forcing the catholic kiddy fucker organized crime syndicate to do anything, I merely hold them to the high moral standard that they constantly bleat out, ad nauseum, to the entire world.
You would think that these self professed arbiters of morality would welcome the chance to fully exculpate themselves by voluntarily assisting secular authorities in the investigation of criminal paedophiles within their organization.
If there is anyone less qualified than you to speak for the victims of catholic clerical kiddy fucking, it would have to be one of the kiddy fucking clerics themselves.
How dare you lecture others on what constitutes justice when your own morality is informed by one of the most anti-human ideologies going, where homophobia, misogyny, sexual predation and genocidal opposition to the use of birth control and sexual prophylaxis has resulted in untold human misery.
Schlumbumbi says
Look, I know you’re angry because you don’t have an actual argument, but the “problem” is supereasy to comprehend:
(1) You want to hold a group people accountable by different standards than others – I say that’s hypocrisy.
(2) You want to hold a group of people accountable by imaginary supernatural standards – I say that’s anti-secular hogwash.
I don’t have to take any guesses on WHY you do that. You do that because you hate the catholic church, and you even betray your own professed (but probably non-existing) principles to indict them – I say that’s a bullshit attitude.
And here’s a little bit to destroy your entire bogus reasoning:
I’m not a catholic. I’m not a christian. I hold no supernatural beliefs. I’m a full blown atheist and anti-theist.
And still, I have to much self-respect to throw my own principles out the window just to sucker punch my perceived enemies.
And that’s all it is. I’m obviously right and you’re obviously full of… well.. who cares anyway.
leni says
You are such a fucking liar schlumblumblee.
Says the person who thinks religious people aren’t accountable for behavior the rest of us are,
I think you pulled this one straight out of your ass, but again: Says the person who thinks religious people aren’t accountable for behavior the rest of us are,
I think it’s pretty clear that the person who doesn’t have an argument here is you. Special pleading is your big win? It’s not convincing and mostly just super fucking creepy.
leni says
If you are a priest and you fuck my child while I entrusted their care to you, you damn well transgressed against someone else besides the child you raped.
You abused the trust of everyone in the community who opened their doors, homes, hearts, and wallets to you.
These men raped the people whose very souls they were entrusted to save, and you think they don’t owe anyone but the people they physically raped an apology?
And since the victims don’t seem that keen on accepting their notpologies, I’m not so sure anyone else should either.
Yet you seem totally ok with it, which is creepy.
Bullshit. Teachers, social workers, doctors- they are all required to report suspected abuse. The Pope wasn’t the accused abuser. He was the boss of abusers.
Lots of people are legally liable to report crimes they witness or know occurred. The only people that aren’t have the kind of immunity that immense power affords them and they don’t really need your bullshit arguments to help them.

Enough said…

I wish :/
This is exactly why I said that the people schlumblumblee is defending don’t need bullshit arguments from helpful nobodys.
They have money and power and they already make the fucking laws. They don’t need schlumblumblee’s half-assed second-hand amateur help.
They have lawyers, very well paid ones. They have politicians and publicists. And apparently random stupid people who want to help out free for no fucking discernible reason.

uh…guys? Francis had quite a poor track record for bringing pedophile priests to justice in his home country. Just sayin’.
Also, the Catholic priesthood has had a problem throughout its long history, since the very beginning, with priestly predators attacking BOYS mostly:
Note that the rape of girls is never referred to as “sodomy”. And “young priests” may be children young enough to be “altar boys.” If priests’ urges were directed to girls as often as to boys, why wouldn’t they have created a girls-only position similar to “altar boy”, something along the lines of “altar maids” or “vestal virgins of the Madonna” so as to have an institutionalized means of getting girls alone so they could get their freak on with them? Nope – just boys.

Funny thing about “forgiveness.” It is TOTALLY what the abusers want. They want to be absolved of all social responsibility and censure. If their victims FORGIVE them, that means they’re totally off the hook!
Forgiving someone gives that person your permission to continue to abuse you. Forgiveness is license to abuse.
That’s why Christianity, a religion in which “forgiveness” features so prominently and is supposedly readily available at no cost whatsoever, has had such a poisonous, pernicious effect on people’s behavior and on society as a whole. Churches tend to consist of the most despicable, horrible, self-centered, smug, narcissistic, inconsiderate, immoral a-holes you’re likely to find. It’s no surprise that some people describe churches as jerk factories.
