I’m not sure why, but psychopaths sure do like to brag, don’t they?
This one shocked me. In retrospect, I realize it shouldn’t have.
US president Donald Trump has gone to the edge of the cliff defending his right to privacy, although he would never phrase it that way. For Trump, it’s all couched in the language of “executive privilege” – i.e.: the right of the rich and powerful to do whatever they want (especially if it means getting richer and more powerful).
Recently I was invited to do a talk for the Minnesota ISSA at their June chapter meeting; I hope they don’t regret it.
I wonder what Iain Banks would have to say, when he heard about this. I’d hope it would be long, passionate, and full of obscenities. [nyt]
The CIA appears to believe that it has the charter to go anywhere, kill anyone, and overthrow any state that it thinks needs overthrowing. It’s nice to see that sometimes that’s still not true.
In 1989, Ayatollah Khomeini famously issued a fatwa calling for the assassination of Salman Rushdie; a religious organization then established a reward for carrying it out, to the tune of $2.7mn. Every so often, some group of “hard liners” raises more money and puts it in the pot, so now it’s up to just under $4mn. [nyt]
