It appears that an ancient smith in Persia was making steel that was close, in today’s terms, to what we’d call “stainless steel.” The question is whether that was lucky, or intentional, or both.
I don’t like to paint. Yet, so many times, I start a project the ends with a couple of coats of paint.
Currently, I am in the process of making a small batch (4) of kiridashi. It’s a pretty strict design and, while it probably looks like it’s easy to just make a single large flat bevel, it’s not.
I had the idea of making a large composite resin egg with a theme inside. Like, the ‘Dune’ egg (still in progress) this is a resin-dunked homage to literary pretensions.
The Coyote Committee sometimes has their meetings right under my bedroom window. At this point, I sleep right through them, but I’ve had house-guests come crashing into my bedroom in terror at 2am saying “there is a ghost downstairs!”

I took a couple days off and worked slowly on the high-intensity parts like re-shaping the top curve. I measured and the sawz-all was giving me about 3″/minute and my forearms and hands would start cramping after about 15 minutes. All in all, it was not too bad (good grip strength exercise!) but it was hardly what I would call “fun.”
