Gout is a form of arthritis that happens when your kidneys don’t do a good enough job getting the urea out of your blood and the stuff starts to crystalize in a joint. That triggers a cascading reaction as swelling brings more blood and urea.
Today I decided to see if I could un-stick the truck and get it back up the hill.
I’m going to be at RSA in San Francisco next week, doing a panel on (wait for it….) “Internet firewalls.” As always, I am going to make sure I go to Yank Sing for some face stuffery – anyone want to join me?
I used to travel a lot. I’ve been cutting back because I’ve increasingly come to hate it, but today I just got a double fistful of new hatred.
I’m on my way to Stuttgart, to speak at IT-DEFENSE, 2019 on the topic of “metrics, the quest for meaning.” Things may be spotty here for a week; it depends on my energy level.
Currently, I have half a tank of fuel; that’s enough to get me through this cold snap without the pipes blowing up. The last few days have been an interesting, exciting, scattershot mess.
My furnace died last friday, and the tech came out, replaced a bunch of filters and the jet, bled some gunky-looking oil out of the line, and everything was fine. As he was leaving he said, “I’m going to put a call in for a fuel drop because your tank is at about 1/10.”
If you’re new(ish) to this blog, I’d like to encourage you to read two older postings. In case you missed them.
Today I am heading down to IANS in Charlotte, NC [ia] where I will be moderating sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday I will try to pretend to have a life and then the next week I’ll be doing it again in Washington, DC [ia] then Thursday night (instead of driving home) I’ll drive up to Syracuse, NY for NYSERNET’s conference [ny] where I’m delivering the Friday morning keynote. Then, I drive home and try to remember who I am for 2 days and it’s back down to the DC area to keynote BroCon [bro] in Arlington, then swing by Herndon for a day on the way home to sit in on a Technology Advisory Board for a start-up that I’ve been consulting to for the last few years. After that, it’s a 3 hour drive back to the farm.
