I believe it was a friend of the tuba player’s saying “your family tree has no branches” – implying that they are not very evolved.

>The family tree has no branches
I haven’t watched the video. It sounds like an attach on evolution. It sounds like the claim that all living Biblical-kinds of creatures were created at the beginning, and they have stayed pure since then, with no mixing, and no diversification e.g. “branching”.
That, or it’s the accusation that someone’s family history is nothing but incest.
Dunno.

That video is old. It certainly long predates Trump.

Sousaphone. Sheesh, Americans! You invented it, and don’t even recognise it.

Being from the southern US, “family tree doesn’t branch” was a somewhat common insult I heard growing up, meaning “their family’s inbred, undereducated backwoods hicks, and they’re probably mentally deficient.” I presume the speakers’ talking about the marchers; it’s a really common response to Klan types.

a related common insult is: “their family tree looks like a telephone pole.”

At the very end there, it sounded like someone said “The family tree has no branches.”
Does anyone even know what that means, in a racist context? I couldn’t find anything on Google.
Not only do these people live in an alternate reality, they seem to be developing an alternate language.
