After a very short deliberation of less than three hours, the jury found Donald Trump guilty of sexual assault and defamation but not guilty of rape of E. Jean Carroll.
A New York jury has found that Donald Trump sexually abused the advice columnist E Jean Carroll in a New York department store 27 years ago.
The verdict for the first time legally brands a former US president as a sexual predator. But as it is the result of a civil and not criminal case, the only legal sanction Trump will face is financial.
The jury awarded Carroll more than $2 million on the charge of assault and about $3 million on the defamation charge.
In that three hours they had to:
elect a foreperson
read the jury instructions
vote on a verdict
have lunch
decide on damages and penalties (probably the long part)
fill in and sign all of the forms.
This could be a near record time result.
In a reasonable world, a verdict like this would be the last we heard about Trump. Somehow, I don’t expect that it’ll even slow him down.
I bet Trump’s ranting and seething behind closed doors was epic, I’d love to see the tantrum.
Weird that defamation was found to be more damaging than sexual assault.

@1 -- I saw someone speculating that a fair proportion of time the jury took was likely spent sitting around saying “Do you think we’ve waited long enough so it looks like we thought about it for, like, a second?”
