According to Politico:
Embattled Rep. George Santos has claimed that reports and videos documenting him performing in drag are both “outrageous” and “categorically false.”
But nearly a dozen years ago, Santos himself appears to have confirmed that he participated in drag shows while he was a teenager living in Brazil.
A Wikipedia page accessed by POLITICO shows a user named Anthony Devolder — a Santos alias — writing that he “startted [sp] his ‘stage’ life at age 17 as an gay night club [sp] DRAG QUEEN and with that won sevral [sp] GAY ‘BEAUTY PAGENTS [sp].’”
That he may have once been a drag queen is not nor should be an issue. However, I will be skeptical that he actually won beauty pageants until he provides proof, because he seems to have a penchant for exaggerating his accomplishments, such as claiming that he was a volleyball star at Baruch College when they won a championship, when he did not even attend that institution. He seems to be incapable of making up simple lies, he seems compelled to adorn them with further grandiosities.
That’s not all. He used many names, including Anthony Devolder.
In the 2011 Wiki bio, the user Anthony Devolder sprinkles show business credits that ring similarly untrue. He describes his Hollywood career as taking off after a meeting with a producer of the 1996 blockbuster “Independence Day.” He name drops the director Steven Spielberg (he misspelled his last name as “Spilberg”), and claims to have starred in “a few T.V shows and DISNEY Channel shows such as ‘the suite life of Zack and Cody” and the hit “Hanna[h] Montana.”
The Wiki bio concludes with Santos writing that, two years prior, he “taped his very first movie startting [sp] Uma Turman, [sp] Chris Odanald, [sp] Melllisa George, [sp] and Alicia Silver Stone [sp] in the movie “THE INVASION.”
“The Invasion” is a 2007 sci-fi/thriller with roots in the “Body Snatchers” storyline and stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
A former roommate said that Santos wanted to get elected to Congress so that he could have a pension and health care for life.
Gregory Morey, a former roommate of Rep. George Santos (R-NY), told CBS News in an interview that Santos wanted to be in Congress for a single term so he could get a pension and health care for the rest of his life.
“He told me once that, ‘If I can get elected to Congress for just one term, I’ll be set with a pension and health care for the rest of my life,’” said Morey, who allegedly moved in with Santos for a few months in New York City in the early 2010s.
Unfortunately for Santos, under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), a full pension is available to members 62 years of age only after 5 years of service, for members 50 years or older after 20 years of service or members of any age after 25 years of service.
…Morey, who said he met Santos about a decade ago, doesn’t seem surprised by the stories of lies and con man-like tricks that have been mounting around the New York Republican.
…“He never went by George. Never went by Santos. I knew him as Anthony Devolder,” Morey said.
Santos/Devolder is one weird, weird, guy.

I’ve seen variants of this story all day, but not until you pointed out that all the famous names he claimed to be seen with were misspelled did I catch on that he probably did that on purpose, so these famous names couldn’t easily search his misrepresentations of them and serve him with cease-and-desist orders!

I wonder. It may be as you say, but then again remember he is not a straight white guy. Conservative tolerances are already stretched nearly to their breaking point, but he had his uses for them. So long as he was a reliably bland conservative, they could point to him as a token to deflect accusations of homophobia and racism. But with all this fantasist nonsense, I don’t think he serves that function for them and so they have little reason to let him hang around, even in their vacuous media industry.

If it was not for the internal power struggles, the public would not find out these things.
So now we know the BBC chair bought his job from the prime minister.
