No doubt after being made aware that she had scored an own goal, her video has since disappeared from her account but the internet never forgets.
It is truly astounding to me that so many people are opposed to the idea that when they need medical help, they should be able to get it without having to worry about paying for it or even going bankrupt.
Meanwhile today the US Supreme Court, by a surprisingly large 7-2 margin, has rejected the latest challenge to the AffordableCare Act that sought to repeal the law, saying that the challengers made up of Texas and 17 other Republican-controlled states, did not have standing to bring the lawsuit.

I believe most of the world is bewildered. A Brazilian friend told me that (pre-pandemic) public health care was not great but it was there.
Here in Canada we take free-at-point-of-service healthcare as a given. And it is world class. Same with the UK’s NHS which in many ways is better than ours.
As I believe I have mentioned here before, an early release from hospital messed up my ride plans. The hospital volunteered a “free” taxi chit to get me home.
Okay we are spoiled but a US friend of mine narrowly escaped bankruptcy when his mother needed care. He ended up working for several years in Saudi Arabia to recover.
In Canada, the main complaint about hospital costs is how much one pays for car parking.
Oh, I forgot. I am waiting for my second Oxford-Astra-Zenica shot. It is covered under the provincial medical plan and the local pharmacy will call as soon as a time-slot is available.
Sort of. We still don’t have dental care, even when it’s part of reconstructing a jaw in what is obviously medical care and not routine dentistry. It’s a weird line, but in Canada you have a right to have your finger reattached, but not to have your tooth saved.
So some of it is a given. There are still lines we draw.
My government had basically two reasons why it started with universal healthcare.
1) It was the right thing to do as Christians.
2) It would save everyone (except the providers/insurance) money. Either because they don’t go in debt for being ill. Or having people drop out of the workforce longer then needed and thus reducing profits. Better yet due to having healthier people that can keep working longer the whole system is partially funded due to taxes gained.
Major reason why prevention is quite a big thing these days. For example it isn’t funny how much cheaper it is to hand out insulin refills (and the regular visits to a trained nurse to see if the dosage is still correct) then the costs of having to fight the resulting problems of not putting people who need it on insulin. It does help that (from what I could find) insulin costs, on average, per refill 1/25 of what it would cost in the US.
Amazing how a little thought from a conservative reveals how little they understand what they are so firmly against.
I have lived as a permanent resident or citizen of three countries with a “socialist” medical care system. None of these countries are anything other than Western democracies (although two of them are in the Eastern hemisphere relative to the centre of the universe that is Europe and the USA and the other is a well known monarchy). To allow educated guesses, only one of the three is North of the equator.
They are all three far from the cesspit of communism that these Donald the cHUMP loving cnservatives believe will result from an affordable healthcare system.
Where I live now I must pay to visit a GP and for dental work. But visits to the doctor are covered by a subsidy either wholly, partly or not at all depending on what the visit is for.
If I need hospitalisation however I am cared for incredibly well without cost.
Strange as it may seem, the way it works is thus: I pay income tax.
I pay sales tax.
The government then uses some of that money to provide subsidised doctor visits AND free hospital care to any citizen in need, and will care for me when I need it. My friend recently broke his ankle. It was pinned and repaired for free. He did not have to descend into poverty just to get back on his feet and return to work.
We also have paid sick leave up to two weeks per year, paid maternity leave, paid holidays for one month per year, compulsory superannuation investment etc. And we are not Communists! That must be hard to believe.
Investing in the health of your citizens is investing in the future well being of your nation.
So what is wrong with you, USA? What do you do with your taxpayers money if you do not use it for the wellbeing of your own citizens?
I guess that many in the USA would refuse to allow their taxes to go towards helping their community members.They would rather pay little tax and for most of it to continue to fund the nuclear nightmare stockpile of weapons of mass destruction that the USA so hates anybody else having.

Happens when most of the parties, at the time that the bits and pieces of the laws that collectively form the basis of universal healthcare were written, literally had the word Christian in their party name or otherwise associated with the Catholics or Protestants (Heck we have our own bible belt and a decade or so ago one of the Christian political parties originating from there got told to stop using the bible as guide for how to do politics and use the laws or lose their classification as political party).

This may differ a bit province by province.
In Ontario it appears that OHIP will cover some dental bills if the patient has been hospitalized due to the problem. I do not think you have to be hospitalized when you are receiving the dental care.
Other than that we seem to have a means-tested plan for seniors. Thanks Dougie. I would have thought that dental care fore children was more important but seniors are more likely to vote Tory.
