Amid all the frenzied tweeting by Trump and the 56 lawsuits brought by him and his acolytes to obfuscate the fact that he has lost, it is easy to overlook the fact that the final result is not even close. All 50 states have now certified their election results and the Electoral College has formally cast its votes to give Biden the expected 306-232 a margin of victory. In addition Biden easily won the popular vote by over seven million with a margin of 51.3-46.9%. In short, by any measure Trump lost badly and all the protestations by him and his supporters cannot hide that fact. The only thing he can boast about is that he got more votes than any other loser before him. What he has done by fighting it like this is to die a death of a thousand cuts, with a string of daily defeats in different venues.
All 50 states and D.C. have now certified their 2020 election results:
Biden 81,282,376 (51.3%)
Trump 74,222,576 (46.9%)That's a 2.4 point margin swing against Trump vs. 2016 and a 15.9% increase in votes cast.

Remember Pat Robertson’s cunning but secret plan to overturn the election? It appears that he had the Texas lawsuit before the US Supreme Court in mind because it was going to be argued by Ted Cruz whom Robertson called “a brilliant constitutional attorney”.
Televangelist Pat Robertson on Thursday said that the state of Texas is following God’s plan by suing to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
“God is never late,” Robertson announced on his 700 Club program. “We declared on this program and you joined with me that God almighty was going to do a miracle and stop the theft of our election and the fraud that was being perpetrated on the American people and that God himself would intervene.”
…“They should investigate the fraud that is taken place all over,” Robertson opined. “Oh wow! It’s exciting, the time we’re living in but God is in control. But I would ask you to pray as you have never prayed before as this case goes before the Supreme Court because we do not wish to have our election stolen by crooked activity that took place.”
Of course, that lawsuit was unceremoniously tossed out by the court without even giving the ‘brilliant constitutional attorney’ a chance to strut his stuff.
Come on, Pat, I expected a lot better from you. This is such a disappointment. I had thought that Robertson’s miracle would involve at least Jesus riding in on a kraken to smite all the evil doers, but all you were praying for is another lousy lawsuit?
Aren’t Trump and his followers tired of all this winning?

WOW! I guess praying does work. The crooks were not able to steal the election from the rightful winners. Thanks Pat.

TRUMP IS THE GREATEST loser of all time.

I agree with Pat -- more praying is in order. They should trust in God and stop filing lawsuits, since lawsuits are of Earth, not of Heaven.

In one sense, though, the election was close. In the critical background ststes, Biden’s victory margin was small, as low as ~12000 votes (GA). The outcome could have been changed by a tiny percentage of the total vote, but only if those changed votes had happened in specific places.
That’s a weird consequence of the electoral college system, but it’s not a new phenomenon. The same thing could be said about Trump’s victory in 2016.

It is nice to see all these Trumper tantrums and failed lawsuits. It does make me happier. I’ve been fed up with humanity ever since Trumplecryingbaby was elected, and it adds insult to injury that it was far closer than it should have been this time around. 46.9% for Trump is still a horror, a disaster, a crying shame.

I think I have to agree with DonDueed @6 and file thirteen @7: it was too close for comfort. There are still way too many members of the “[Trump] says it. I believe it. That settles it.” crowd.

Further proof that the vote was full of fraud and that the election was stolen!

Hm. Depends on the metric (and its granularity), due to the peculiarity of the system at hand.

Due to the electoral college, which is the legitimate law of the country, it actually was a very close election. I think the electoral college is a stupid anachronism, and you may agree, but there’s no question that it is the law unless the Constitution is amended, or the NPVIC is approved. (In the case of the NPVIC, there is actually some controversy as to whether the Supreme Court would allow it. Obviously, “originalists” should allow it, but the conservative majority in SCOTUS are “convenient originalists” at best, and partisan hacks at worst.)

From my perspective, even the popular vote was somewhat tight. I guess Americans are used to close elections, with two roughly equally strong parties. Over here we have more parties, and their relative popularity fluctuates a lot depending on how their leading figures perform.
