I keep seeing more and more examples of cartoonists using the name Bob to make a cartoon funnier, especially if the character so named is a bit of a doofus. Why this perfectly good name has been singled out for this dubious recognition is a mystery. Here are some recent ones.
johnson catman says
In the future, “Donald” should be the butt of all jokes.
Raging Bee says
How about “Eric?” You know, Eric the Cat, Eric the Fish, Eric the Half-Bee, Eric the Rich Brat who’s Dumber than any of the Other Erics…?
Rob Grigjanis says
While Alice is not amused, she is grateful for not being singled out herself.
John Morales says
Bob’s not Karen.
Silentbob says
Now hang on just one minute…
chigau (違う) says
“Bob” is one syllable. That leaves the jokester lots of space to finish the joke.
If the protagonist is named “Sylvester”, that is the joke.
hyphenman says
I’ve wondered if the fact that Bob is also a verb--as in bobbing for apples--place a part here.
