Sergey Lavrov describes the one thing that is preventing the US from attacking North Korea
North Korea’s possession of nuclear weapons is preventing the U.S. from launching a first strike against the rogue nation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview.
“The Americans won’t strike because they know for sure — rather than suspect — that it has atomic bombs,” Lavrov said Sunday on Russia’s NTV television. “I’m not defending North Korea right now, I’m just saying that almost everyone agrees with this analysis.”
Lavrov said the U.S. attacked Iraq “solely because they had 100 percent information that there were no weapons of mass destruction left there,” refuting arguments the American government made at the time.
That the invasion of Iraq was made on the basis of lies was, of course, known to any thoughtful observer at that time but was largely hidden from the American public by the jingoistic feeling that was widespread in the media.
Lavrov must be enjoying the tremendous feast of “I told you so” that has come his way.
There were people pointing out that the US knew Iraq had no WMD, because if they did, the entire battle-plan would have been different. It’s like when the homeland security idiots at the airport take away your bottled water and throw it in the garbage -- don’t say “Hey! Don’t handle it like that! Because if you’re throwing it around that means you’re also sure it’s not concentrated hydrogen peroxide, so you can let me have it back so I can drink it on the plane.” Same logic: if you’re going to pretend to invade a country because you think it is developing nukes, you don’t charge armored columns right up the main roads.
Lavrov may have spared a moment for ““I told you so” but he is likely too busy worrying about US actions in Syria for more.

I have also seen a report (probably reliable) that the Russians strongly suspect American involvement (or outright encouragement and instigation) in an insurgent militia attack on the Syrian Army that seemed intended to encircle and capture, a unit of Russian military police. The Russians sent in special ops forces to rescue the military police.
The Russians sound like they are getting annoyed at US shenanigans.
Of course, the Americans attacked Iraq because they knew the country didn’t have any weapons of mass destruction. What is the only puzzling aspect of the entire squalid exercise is that the US didn’t ‘discover’ any to justify the invasion.
