In the latest investigative segment on his show Last Week Tonight, John Oliver looks at how poorly the credit reporting agencies function, despite their immense impact on people’s lives.
Because my dad hated junk mail, he occasionally ordered things in the name of my cat, “Max”.
Well, computer databases being what they are, credit agencies thought Max was a human and somehow smooshed my dad’s income and mine and assigned it to Max for his credit history. A friend checked it when I was buying a car and said Max could have bought any car on the lot
-- he had a stellar rating.
I could NOT get Max out of the databases, because only Max could correct errors in his files … despit his being a cat who had never worked a day in his life.
