The Daily Show highlights Clinton’s tendency to say the wrong things. This is probably a symptom of her lack of authenticity and her tendency to parse her words so as to mean many different things and thus try to shade her past positions to look as if she was always in favor of the things she says she now believes. When you lack conviction is when you are likely to make such errors.

The first two examples highlighted are fairly protrayed and criticized. But it just pisses me off about the third. Trevor Noah uses the very kind of tactic that we liberals so frequently yell foul when conservatives do it. Presenting a partial quote. The remark about coal mines and coal mining jobs is purposely edited to end with Hillary saying we are going to put coal mines out of business and coal miners out of work, leaving off a crucial part that immediately followed that remark. Hillary clearly said that in doing so we must not abandon the coal miners themselves. She clearly stated in the missing part that follows that we need to provide programs to retrain coal miners. And while we’re at it, she was simply being honest about what must and will happen if we are serious about transitioning to a clean-energy, non-fossil-fuel based economy. I voted for Bernie,in part because I prefer his economic plans. There are things about Hillary’s economic plans that are justifiably deserving of criticism. There are things she has said during this campaign that were subjected to justifiable criticism. But this was not one of them. The quote was not put in its full context. The harsh reality is that weening ourselves off coal, oil and natural gas and moving to renewable energy sources is going to mean the loss of jobs in the coal, oil, and natural gas industries and the gain of jobs in the renewable energy sector.
